With players who played in the Sochi Olympics either declining to play or not being asked to play because they have played too much hockey already this year, this is his chance to crack what is always a tough Canadian lineup to do so.
Not disagreeing with you here, but man it's going to be tough to break into Canada's defense as a RHD, with Weber, Doughty, Pietrangelo. Those guys should be on the right side for the next 10+ years.

All he'd have to do is beat out the LHD, we've read that right/left handedness doesn't matter as much on the international size ice

Anyway, a foot in the door can't hurt his chances! Hope ennis makes it over though, he's certainly one of the more exciting players

Gaudreau Added To 2014 United States Mens National Team - World Championships - USAHockey.com - Wednesday, April 23 - http://mensworlds.usahockey.com/news...rrer_id=752796

Johnson Added To 2014 United States Mens National Team - World Championships - USAHockey.com - Friday, April 25 - http://mensworlds.usahockey.com/news...rrer_id=752796

Abdelkader, DeKeyser Added To 2014 Mens National Team - World Championships - USAHockey.com - Tuesday, April 29 - http://www.usahockey.com/news_articl...rrer_id=752796

Updated United States Roster - 2014 World Championships - USAHockey.com - http://mensworlds.usahockey.com/page/show/819370-roster

LaxSabre - United States roster for the World Championships consists of thirteen forwards, eight defensemen and one goalie. The maximum roster size is 25. Well three players left to be named. The next one named has to be a goalie as Connor Hellebuyck (who played with UMass-Lowell this past college hockey season) is the lone one on the roster. Probably waiting to see whose eliminated from the NHL/AHL playoffs before announcing their second goalie. Only NHL goalie that would be eligible from the six teams that could be eliminated from the playoffs tonight would be Jonathan Quick and I doubt he would be playing in the World Championships after he playing in the Olympics/NHL this season.

Edit: Just checked the rosters and Alex Stalock of the San Jose Sharks is an American. So theres probably your second goalie for the United States should the San Jose Sharks lose tonight to the Los Angeles Kings. If Stalock starts in net over Nemi tonight, we could have a Winner advances to Second Round vs Loser goes to World Championships matchup between Stalock and Quick.

As for the other two spots - USA Hockey will probably wait until the second round/conference semifinals are over to see who is eligible to play from the eliminated teams. Usually countries don't fill out their rosters until the second week of the tournament.

Speaking of goalies for the World Championships....

Hurricane Goalie Peters Named To Canada Roster For Worlds - TSN.ca - Monday, April 28.

Calgary, Alberta, Canada - Canada's goaltending for the upcoming world championship is all set with the addition of Justin Peters from the Carolina Hurricanes. Peters, a 27-year-old native of Blyth, Ont., joins James Reimer of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Ben Scrivens of the Edmonton Oilers in the goalie rotation.

With Peters confirmed for the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, which runs from May 9-May 25 in Minsk, Belarus, Canada has 21 players on its roster. Every team is allowed to register up to 25. If all 25 spots are used, expect one more defenceman - probably a left-handed shot - to be added along with three more forwards.

LaxSabre - forgot that he is now on Dallas Stars and that he was eligible since they were eliminated on Monday night-would have listed him in that one post. Not a fan of Tim Thomas - was hoping for Alex Stalock instead.

Men's World Championship Team Draws On World Juniors Success - Justin A. Rice - Special to USAHockey.com - Tuesday, May 6.

When building the roster for the United States Mens National Team that will play in the International Ice Hockey Federation Mens World Championship this month, Jim Johannson bet that success begets success. That’s why Johannson, the assistant executive director of hockey operations for USA Hockey, stocked the team that will play in Minsk, Belarus from May 9-25 with six members of 2013 United States National Junior Team that won a gold medal at the IIHF World Junior Championship in Russia.

“First of all, it’s great to have continuity of guys that played together at a championship level and grew through our system together,” Johannson said. “Also walking into the room, having success rubs off on everybody. Some guys haven’t played as much [for the United States] as other guys who have played in the past. It’s just good to see guys who walk in with a gold medal.”

And if they perform well in Minsk, those six players - Seth Jones, Jake McCabe, Connor Murphy, Jacob Trouba, Vince Trocheck and Johnny Gaudreau - could make an early impression on the decision-makers who will select the 2018 United States Olympic Team that will play in PyeongChang, South Korea.

“It’s an important time for these guys,” Johannson said. “They certainly established themselves in the Under-20 level in USA Hockey and several really established themselves, in most cases, in their first year in the NHL. “And again, it furthers their development as players. And they know they are stepping into the World Championships for the first time. I think it’s a natural progression. A lot of these players are tracked to being players for us. They are certainly on track to be cornerstones of our program for a long time.”

United States Not Overlooking Belarus As 2014 World Championships Open - USAHockey.com - Friday, May 9 -
http://mensworlds.usahockey.com/news...rrer_id=780184

Minsk, Belarus - The United States begins its quest for a second consecutive World Championship Medal at the 2014 International Ice Hockey Federation Mens World Championship against Belarus, as the tournament host nation celebrates its Victory Day national holiday.

Fan enthusiasm and the nation’s support should reach an all-time high as Belarus will be playing its first-ever home world championship game on Friday evening at the 15,000-seat Minsk Arena. United States will have to weather the storm of a Belarusian team playing, arguably, the most anticipated game in the hockey-crazed nation’s history.

“We have to be ready to go right off the bat, we know they’re going to be excited and have a lot of energy,” said alternate captain Craig Smith, who is making his fourth consecutive world championship appearance. “We have to manage that, cut it down, and make sure we build off our own momentum with our own group on the bench.”

  2. CAN PK: One of two players below the end line chasing the puck, which squirts out front to an open DaCosta for the 2-2 equalizer.
  3. CAN ES: Heads a rush down the right wing and pinpoints Hodgson on a cross-ice pass, but Huet makes the save.
