Not sure why anyone would want Laukkanen, he retired!

I was thinking Buzek too.

Remember, Buzek made the all-star game about 5 years ago for a reason. Also, he played on the same team as Staois, Atlanta. Staois-Buzek would be an excellent second defensive pairing.

Also, I always liked Czerkawski, but that depends on how much he'll settle for in Edmonton.

I can tell you about a few guys:

Buzek seems to have chronic injury problems. he had them before he came to Calgary and now there are added concussion concerns. He's still on the Flames books officially apparently but as soon as/if he is ever healthy they will buy him out. Probably not worth grabbing on the waiver wire.

re: JF Damphousse. I don't think he's the next Giguere. Remember he was traded from NJ to Ana, then traded from Ana to Cgy, then not offered a contract by CGY then left unprotected by MTL all in a 12 month span. Makes Josh Green look Steve Yzerman! seriously though, even when Giguere was struggling at his worst in the Cgy system he was still viewed as a high level prospect, who unfortunately was traded b/c of the cursed expansion draft Damphousse was out of shape at the Flames prospect camps this summer and seems to be in freefall mode. If I were you guys I wouldn't dump conklin to get him

Czerkawski was a healthy scratch in Hamilton at the end of last year. That isn't exactly a sign that he would be good here.

Yeah, it's not a good sign, although the Oilers would at least have had a good look at him and he's doing well in pre-season so far...

If he could ever learn a little defense...
