I couldn't agree more, These are bad deals for the Panthers and Edler is'nt worth giving up a decent pick for.

This makes no sense for the Panthers. I would take Edler on the Panthers, but no way am I giving up a top three pick for him, especially if we have a shot at Ekblad. Not comparing the two, but he fits right into what we are trying to build, and it allows our young D core to grow together. OTOH, the Panthers could also add a player like Reinhart or Bennett to our stable of young forwards. Of course adding a veteran blueliner helps with the development of our youth, but again, not for a probable top three pick.

One of the things I'm looking forward to with Linden at the helm is being able to trade with a team other than Florida.

How about Edler and a top 50 pick for Gudbranson? Or Edler and another piece?

Nope. Why are we trying to get rid of Gudbranson for Edler?

Sedins emerged as elite levels players in that time aswell. But I agree he was the backbone.

I wouldn't do it, keep Tanev, get Ehlers/Ritchie/Kapanen with our 1st.

True. Had the trade been made a year earlier, it would have made more sense, since the Nucks would have kept Schneider and unloaded 85% of Lou's contract.

In 2014, with a vet team loaded with ntc\nmc clauses, I have no idea what Gilli's was thinking

Not really, we have an elite goalie at 4.5 per. Weren't going to get that any other way, or for cheaper, you guys kept 1.5, pretty great deal for the Panthers.

I think something around Edler and our 1st (7th) for Florida's 1st (3rd) assuming Ekblad is gone could work.
Van gets a top 3 pick to build around, and Florida gets a defenseman to add to a young crop and the 7th overall pick (Ehlers, Rictchie, ect.)

We may be stupid from the sun and all, but please... Edler is signed at $5 million per year for 5 more years with a NTC. His play has been in decline for awhile, perhaps due to the back injury I vaguely recall he suffered a couple of seasons ago.. He is pretty much a salary cap dump at this point, at least, in my eyes.

I for one just think he needs a change of scenery. Torts is probably the worst coach Edler could hope to have, and everyone from Vancouver knew it would be a thrive or crumble type of season for him. Well ... I think we have our answer. Edler has a ton of potential, and simply needs the rights partner. Campbell? Gudbranson? I for one thinks Edler would probably have a great season next to Campbell, as he seems to succeed being next to a more offensive defenseman (ie. Ehrhoff and Karlsson).
Not to mention that if the cap goes up the Panthers are going to have to spend to get to the floor. I'm not saying they couldn't spend it elsewhere, but taking a risk on Elder could pay off by giving them a top 3 dman while only dropping 4 spots in the draft.

Tanev is not a good enough value to go from say...7 or 8 where it's a crap shoot, to 2nd where you get a stud.

Top ten? A lot of people argued he wasn't even a starter any more.

He's been a lot better with the Panthers than with the Nucks lately. This is a team with Jovo scoring own goals and doing his part of pylon
