The Official Pavel Bure Thread

Ok, just like you guys I get annoyed with the numerous Pavel Bure threads that pop up every week

But, according to this interview Pavel Bure might be making a return to the NHL

http://www.hockeyrodent.com/102/2076...ARD.HTM#MSGNEW

So, love him or hate him... if he can play again could he possibly be the scoring winger we need?

JV as soon as I saw this posted on the Rangers board, I was wondering how long it would take for it to be posted here.

If he was half the scorer he used to be, i'd take a chance.

Haha that's where I found it, which is why i'm considering it a rumor til there's more proof the interview is real.

If he was half the scorer he use to be he'd still be leading the team in points...

Don't really know what to make of that

That's pretty sad actually.

Which is why we should take this sort of chance.

High risk, high reward!

If he was half the player he was it's a help and the fans would come back. Can't forget the year he carried us to the playoffs.

If he was half the player he use to be...

Does that make him attractive enough for Anna Kournikova to come back as well?

If there is one person that can get the retired/injured/forgottens to come back and play again, that man is none other than Iron Mike Keenan

I doubt he will be back and if he is with a cup contender so probably Detroit, Phili, Toronto (that would kill me) or since he did say he loved NY he could come back but I doubt Sather would sign him.

I wouldn't consider Detroit and Toronto serious Cup contenders this year. Just a hunch.

Look more to teams like Chicago, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, Vancouver, Edmonton, and Anaheim. Florida too if Satan will be skating to work and every necessary factor comes together for them (old guys stay healthy, young guys improve and fill the vacancies left by Keenan, and everyone signs before training camp).

Detroit and Toronto both have the same problem - goaltending. Neither Legace or Osgood is a solid #1 netminder and Belfour is old and has had back problems in the past. Pittsburgh could be tough if Super Mario can stay healthy and they break Crosby into the league gently and don't put too much pressure on him. I think Columbus will be fierce this year with Rick Nash really coming into his own and the additions of Berard and Foote to solidfy the blueline. Holik will definitely help in Atlanta especially with Heatley to get them thinking in a more defensive mindset.

I also really like a lot of the moves that Florida has made. Nieuwy and Roberts are proven winners who will teach the younger players what it takes to win in the NHL. Nieuwy is also a positive in the locker room and on the road. In Dallas, he was paired up with Jamie Langenbrunner who has become a solid forward and an integral part of NJ. In Toronto, he roomed with Matt Stajan and really helped him find his way in the league. My only concern about Florida is Luongo and going to arbitration. Arbitration is a nasty process that can leave a bitter taste in the players mouth - I just hope Luongo can realize it's a business decision and not take it personally.

If I had to pick now, I'd say Philly vs Vancouver. IMHO

i agree with you on legace, but osgood has two stanley cup rings. one as a backup and one as a starter. he's legit. not hall of fame, but you dont win cups if youre a slouch.

on bure, NO THANK YOU.

Osgood lets in some weak goals. I think the changes with the red line and to the goalies, equipment and also not being allowed to leave the net as much, will really impact his ability. Despite winning 2 cups with Detroit, the team went out and got other #1 goaltenders every time they had the chance, Joseph and Hasek. He's a respectable goaltender, but I don't think he's enough to take an aging team to the Stanley Cup.

He's listed as 5'10" and 175 which means he's probably more like 5'8" 165. Without the bigger equipment, there's a lot more open space there than say with Marty Brodeur, 6'2" 210. He's vulnerable to the long shot.
