It's late August, so that can only mean one thing:
Q EXHIBITION GAMES!!!
Hey, it's hockey.
Baie Comeau 8
Rimouski 7 (SO)
--Tobin 1G, 1A, 4 PIM, +1
--Let the record show my first listing of a shootout victory. This could take some getting used to.
--The post-Crosby/Roussin era begins. Tobin should get a lot of ice time to work on his skills. He's apparently changed his number from 19 to 18.
Defenseman Jay Rosehill has opted to forego his final three years of eligiblity at UMD to sign with the Lightning. You can read about it HERE.
For those who aren't familiar with Rosehill, here's a bit of info on him:
He's big and he loves to hit. He's a punishing checker with good size (about 6'3/210 and still growing into his body) who loves to get physical. Not much in the way of offense, more of a stay-at-home type of defenseman. He's a project and I wouldn't expect to see him in TB for at least another year, but he could become a fan favorite of those who love the tough guys. Rosehill is a tank...plain and simple. It's a real tough loss for Minnesota-Duluth, but I think you all will love this kid. I wish him all the best in his pro career.
Not saying the guy will be a scoring liner or anything in the NHL, but if JF Soucy was worth a contract then Boisclair is in his sleep. He'll put up Soucy's numbers in half a season if he stays in junior.
And the lesson of Jimmie Olvestad's time in Tampa was and still is your checking liners better be able to chip in offensively from time to time. Boisclair looks like the kind of guy who can do that.
Owen Sound 5
-Bartanus - no scoring reported (no boxscore, just a small write up on the OS site).
-The OHL is making both teams have a 3-player shootout at the end of each E-game regardless of the score to get the fans used to the idea.
Lawrence was recently called out by coach Craig Hartsburg for lack of effort. Yeah, that's what you want to hear.
The Soo Star reported the next day that he and the other vet called out had improved.
Beech is marked as the starter in Sudbury in pen. There's a battle for his backup spot.
I asked Feaster about this very concern with Lawrence and he stated that one of their scouts gets to see him alot and that he really likes him. I guess one scouts opionion means more than every other scouting report on him. Feaster said we would just have to wait and see, but I don't have very high hopes for him. Honestly, I was surprised we took him because of the character/work ethic issues. Torts would probably have him broken and crying in their first meeting. He is still young so hopefully he gets his ***** together.
