Vancouver - Buffalo

Let's assume the Canucks end up with the 7th pick and the Islanders forfeit their 4th, what would it take for Vancouver to move from 7th to 4th?

Hansen + a 2nd or 3rd. Think Buffalo is looking for some bottom six character to grow with the young guys at this point so to me that would make sense.

Moot point because there is no way the Islanders forfeit that pick. But value wise it is probably Shinkaruk.

To move up 3 spots in a weakish draft ? Not likely.

This is a damned if you do and damned if you don't think for Snow.

Giving up a 4th OV is brutal for PR, but if the 2015 pick turns out to be McDavid that is potentially two decades of recurring embarrassment.

The top 5 isn't weak. At the 4 spot a team can still get a guy with first line center potential, at the 7 spot there is only top 6 winger potential. You need to consider the significant drop off in talent. So it would be two top 6 winger prospects for 1 top line center prospect, it is pretty fair value.

There is just no way that the Islanders can possibly think they could be this bad again next year with a healthy Tavares. If they do think that they should just trade JT.

I think if the NYI end up in 5th before the lottery then there is a chance they give up the pick if picking at 5 or 6.

Snow will be dead if they give up a top 3 pick in 2015.

As for Buffalo trading down a few spots from 5 or 6 they would do it but they would not want more picks in return. Either a player has to come back or they trade up other picks.

I don't think Vancouver has what buffalo wants...or won't give up what they want.

Vancouver would have to give up a player that they don't wanna give up. The difference btwn #4 and #7 in this draft is top center potential vs top 6 winger

I would not give up Shinkaruk to move up 3 spots in this draft. The gap in talent isn't that much.

Agreed not in a weak draft, Now if this were next year where the draft is much deeper that this would be a different story. But not this year.

It's not them being as bad necessarily.

First off its unprotected so the isles just miss the playoffs but win the lottery.

Second...there isn't much separating the teams around 5-20. The difference in points amounts to 16 pts which is a game in a 10 game block. A team wins a game they lost in each 10 game block and they are a playoff team.

With the isles that can be atributed to injuries and poor goalie play.

At the same time, they could improve but not enough. To get out of the top 6 next year.

Keep the 7th and take the 4th for your 2015 1st rounder.

The difference in this draft between 4th and 7th is huge.

Not going to happen.

It really isn't.

After Ekblad and Reinhart, players picked from 3rd to 7th are in the same tier (Draisatl, Bennett, Dal Colle, Ritchie, Ehlers, Virtanen).

I'd argue that Draisaitl, Ritchie, and Ehlers have 1st line talent as well.

Virtanen? Not so much.

Buffalo has a lot of depth in prospects and assets, but are lacking in top end talent. I don't think it makes much sense for them to trade down

No sale on that. If we get a shot at Dal Colle/Draisaitl with the Isle's pick after getting one of the Sam's, I'd be ecstatic.

Pretty much this.

We need quality, not quantity. The quality at 4/5 is better than 7...so no deal.

Schroeder sucks and Hansen is useless for a rebuilding team.

No.
