AC/DC taking a break. Malcolm Young reportedly ill.

The band released this statement about 15 minutes ago:

Quote:
After forty years of life dedicated to AC/DC, guitarist and founding member Malcolm Young is taking a break from the band due to ill health. Malcolm would like to thank the group’s diehard legions of fans worldwide for their never-ending love and support.

In light of this news, AC/DC asks that Malcolm and his family’s privacy be respected during this time. The band will continue to make music.

That is a serious punch in the gut... I'm hoping it's not true, but if it is then that is incredibly sad for the band, as well as the Young's and their family.

I'm not sure which is sadder, that he doesn't have much longer to "love" or live.

No confirmation one way or another at this point, but note that Brian Johnson did say in February that, "One of our boys was pretty ill," so there's a hint that something wasn't right then.

They are booked into a recording studio next month, but those arrangements may have been made weeks/months ago, before any new health problem emerged.

I was just watching on of their shows on TV over the weekend. I thought a bit about the fact that these guys will probably keep going longer than any band from their era. If true this news is absolutely crushing. I am glad that I had the chance to see them live.

AC/DC are ending their 41 year career on a terribly sad note.

About 3 weeks ago, founding member, rhythm guitarist, co-producer and co-songwriter Malcolm Young had a stroke, which left a blood clot on his brain.

When AC/DC reunited at the start of April to begin a month of rehearsals, in the lead-up to new album recording sessions, Malcolm discovered he couldn't play. At least, he couldn't play like he used to play.

Although friends have described Malcolm's condition as serious, it doesn't mean he won't recover. People do get better after strokes, and people do recover lost skills.

But friends and family of band members believe the decision was made last week to call it quits.

Right now, that announcement is expected Tuesday, April 16, and a press conference has been scheduled.

AC/DC won't continue playing and recording without Malcolm.

I have a good friend who works for acdc here in London and he can not tell me who--but for the past year a member of the band has been seriously sick.. so this is not new news--claiming it came on all of sudden leads me to believe if the article is real they played with the time frame. The band was originally going into the study of march of last year--but the health of one of the band members delayed it--the original plan was to launch their 40th anniversary tour this year--which is their actually anniversary. My buddy tells me a world tour is planned for 2015. He is on tour with another band right now and I will see if he knows anything

about two months ago brian johnson confirmed one member was sick

Maybe the title of the thread should be changed from terminally ill to had a stroke or something.

When I was back in high school AC/DC was the band that got me hooked to hard rock and metal and they've been my favorite band ever since (Problem child under my username is inspired by their song). This is absolutely terrible news. Even though Angus was the one in the spotlight Malcom's brilliance shouldn't be overlooked, he is the main reason why AC/DC had one of the best rhythm sections in the entire rock world.

Get well soon Mr. Young and thank you for all the beautiful music.

AC/DC Not on Cusp of Retirement: Sources

Quote:

Rumors of AC/DC's imminent demise appear to be exaggerated.

Reports surfaced Monday in the group's native Australia that the quintet was on the verge of announcing its retirement due to one band member's (presumably guitarist Malcolm Young's) serious illness. But insiders tell Billboard that there's no truth to the rumor, though the group's management and Columbia Records, its current label, have chosen not to comment on the matter.

Australia's Noise11.com adds that the source of the retirement rumor was an email sent to Perth radio station 6PR from an anonymous tipster using the handle Thunderstruck. The station subsequently spread the word, setting off a flurry of reports first throughout Australia and then worldwide.

This is hardly the first time AC/DC has been rumored to be on the verge of calling it quits. Frontman Brian Johnson set off a furor in 2011 when he spoke of retirement, though he subsequently claimed to have been quoted out of context.

In fact, he told Billboard at the time that, "A journalist asked me once, 'What do you think about retirement, Brian, seeing as you're getting older?' I said something honest and quite naive; I said, 'Well, I'll retire when I can't do it anymore and as soon as I feel I can't do it anymore, then I'll retire.' Next thing I now there's a headline, 'Brian Johnson's gonna retire' and I'm like, 'Y'know, what a piece of **** that guy is.' And it came out all wrong so you got to be careful what you say. Retirement is like anything... There's a time when you have to call it quits. I don't want to do it, and if we can get out and (do) the album and do another short little tour or something, have a bit of fun, I'm your man. I'll be right there."

In fact, the retirement speculation ran counter to yet another report that will likely please fans more. According to The Australian, AC/DC has booked six weeks of studio time in Vancouver, to work on a follow-up to 2008's chart-topping, double-platinum "Black Ice, which was recorded there with producer Brendan O'Brien. Nobody in the band's camp is commenting on that, either, but earlier this year Johnson predicted that AC/DC would indeed be working on a new album as well as playing a 40-date tour to commemorate the group's 40th anniversary.

flame away on this

Just talk to my buddy who is signed to work on an ACDC album that is scheduled to be recorded in Vancouver starting on May 15th 2014 and he has been told that his contract is intact and that he is expected to work on pre-production and production of the album. My buddy is well paid and in demand for what he does and he has been told that media reports do not have the complete story.

talking with my buddy--this may have happened awhile ago but a recovery has happened and the band is good to go

like I said-flame away
