I still don't get why some aren't happy with Bourque and Briere...
(not every player is consistent, but imo the most important players are the ones who deliver in the playoffs...that's what it's all about...takes a lot of heart in playoffs).

Simple...we have players who are better in the playoffs and I love that they show up when it really counts (would be a totally different story if they didn't...I'd be more than pissed off if Briere and Bourque didn't show for playoffs... and Gorges owes our Habs as well and seems to be back).

I can't stand players who are good in the regular season but disappear during playoffs. Bourque and Briere are playoff players...this is great for our Habs.

Besides...if Bourque played like this all the time he would cost $5-6mil+ per year. He's good for our budget at $2.5mil/year. You have to keep Bourque for the next two seasons...have to (cheap contract). (and we don't want to get smaller...gotta keep trying to get bigger/better which is another reason to keep Bourque...getting bigger: J.Tinordi, McCarron, De La Rose, Crisp, etc).

Go Bourque Go!!
Go Briere Go!!
Go Habs Go!!
and...
Go Health Go!!

At least him turning it on in the playoffs will increase his value this summer. If we could get a decent prospect or a 3rd rounder for him that would be great.

Bourque's contract isn't cheap for a guy who is barely able to hold his spot in the lineup all season and is a healthy scratch candidate many nights. It's cheap if you are still fooled into thinking he's something else, maybe. That's past fooled-me-twice, though.

You want another power forward for the playoffs? You've got one. Go down the Habs roster and see how many forwards could duplicate what he did in game 2.

Nothing would make me happier than seeing this guy catch fire.

I'd still dump him immediately in the offseason if I could.

Scores a goal or two and he's suddenly a power forward again. He did the exact same thing last year. Just about useless player (99% of the time) with a big contract, I'd move him him in a second. Hope he continues to do well though.

I'd accept just about anything to get rid of the contract. In the next couple of years, Montreal really needs to get away from paying mediocre players significant money. Bourque, Briere, and Gionta are taking up significant space on the cap (12.3mil) that we could be using to sign star player(s) or retaining our talented players. The next trap we'll be caught in is signing Markov at 6mil to be a PP specialist. Cap management is real.

Not that I disagree but...

1) Markov is not a PP specialist. He's a #1/#2 d-man.
2) Depth players aren't supposed to be consistent or very effective, otherwise they'd be top players and will get top dollar.

Montreal's problem has been attracting and keeping talent, they've had to overpay for depth players but now we're looking better on that front recently. I really don't like Gionta's contract but at 3m/3.5m he'd be more than fine. Briere is obviously overpaid and has no business with that contract but it's been done, we can't do much about it.

In order to dump Bourque, Vanek and Markov would have to be staying, otherwise you just end up spending a similar cap hit on a similar player.

Rene is playing like a man possessed. He did the same thing last year. The man wants to win only when it really counts it seems. He's skating through defenders.

Borque had a rough time coming over here getting over concussion / injury but he has really turned it up here in the PO's where it really matters - great to see - I watched a lot of Calgary games before and he was a beast over there, often their best player on the ice along with Iginla

I wouldn't be shocked to see him have a solid 20-25 goal regular season next year

8 shots on goal. 5 of them were scoring chances. Playing like a man possessed.

Tonight he was again our best forward, by far. Bravo Bourque !
The Eller line has played like the 1st line.
