Are there always this many penalties in Phantoms/AHL games? Sheesh.

Yes, it's similar in juniors as well. The penalty summary gets stuffed a lot every night.

I don't think anyone is arguing he is an offensive defenseman. Just that when he was drafted as an 18 year old teams saw a 6'5 defenseman that could skate. Their was a perception that he had offensive upside. And for a few years, he showed he did have some skills. Not elite offensive tools but maybe enough to classify him as a two-way guy and not just a stay-at-home guy.
That's fine and I don't disagree. The main point I was trying to make here is that while I never saw Coburn in juniors so it may not be a fair comparison, I nevertheless think in Hagg's case it's more than just offensive upside. The skills are already there. To what extent he can utilize those skils in the NHL, that remains to be seen.

1st and 2nd most penalized teams in the league. Phantoms are 2nd, though not by much (7 PIM) so after this game they might flip flop.

But in general yes the AHL has much more penalties when compared to the NHL, pretty significantly in fact.

They should probably put Hägg, Alt and Ghost out together with someone like Straka... from what I have seen those three D are the best players!

Hägg saved it on the first giveaway with a good stick (Alt giveaway?) then Bordson gives it right back to them... dang.

I thought it was Bordson who turned the puck over twice, no?

Pretty sure it was Alt who made that first weak pass which never reached Hagg. Then someone else coughed it up again.

Actually he's been good, he and Hagg have been their best d-men from what I've seen in the last 5 or 6 games. He just whiffed on a pass there or something

Hagg has some good tools. There's no doubting that. I think more than anything it comes down to mentality. Being more assertive with the puck. Some guys just have it. Gostisbehere has it. I'm not sure Hagg is that kind of guy. I hate the Coburn comparisons more than anyone, but if he were more assertive he could be a 40 point guy. Might not have benefited the team, but he could have done it. That's why Hagg needs time to develop. He needs to learn what he can and cannot do. Is he Hjalmarsson or Kronwall? (Lofty I know. I'll take either )

I thought it was Bordson on the giveaway in OT.

Anyway, Ghosts playing time was somewhat curtailed by the Phantoms giving 8 PP's. They barely used Ghost on the PK, which was fine. I thought he looked good in the time he was given.

It felt like Hagg and Alt logged super heavy minutes. They played in all situations. In particular, I liked Hagg a lot. The penalty he took was pretty brutal, though.

Completely agree on the assertiveness aspect. That's the one thing I've been hoping to see more of from Hagg watching him on the Phantoms.

It's a transition process for a 19year old coming over to play his first half dozen of pro games on NA ice. Hagg has not been a liability and is logging a lot of ice time. That's all one can expect right now...

Next year, hopefully, he will be able to battle Gus/Ghost and Alt for the open roster spot on the Flyers. Even if he comes short, there should be opportunities to get called up during the season.

Phantoms play their last game tonight at 7pm, hopefully I'll be able to find another stream for it so I can see Ghost, Alt, and Hagg one more time.

Also, I was thinking earlier about what the D pairs might look like next season.

I doubt Timonen comes back, especially since they resigned MacD so we might need one replacement and possbily one or two more depending on what happens with the Schenns and Grossmann.

I expect that Alt, Ghost, and Hagg will each have a good shot to make the team next season, I wonder if two of them might end up on the team. It might be risky to have two rookie Dmen playing but all of them seem like they're close to making it.
