Jets / Flames

To Winnipeg:
- Jiri Hudler (2 years remaining, 4M cap-hit)
- Dennis Wideman (50% cap retained, 2.625M cap-hit for next 3 years)
- 34th overall in '14
- 2nd round pick in '15

To Calgary:
- Evander Kane

Thoughts?

Still, that quantity is a 30 year old top 6 forward, a RH offensive D man who can play top 4 minutes and two high seconds. Not exactly scraps.

I don't think any deal for Kane would be centered around 30+ year-olds--whether they have term or not--and the Jets have zero need for RHD.

Unlike when Boston was dealing Seguin, any Kane trade needs to emphasize making the Jets better in four years over making the Jets better next year, and two seconds--and a 35 year old Wideman--isn't going to do that.

That doesn't address value, which I also think is pretty far off. But you're only going to get appropriate value for Hudler from teams that are on the cusp anyway.

Hudler and Wideman as the main pieces, Are'nt going to get you Evander Kane any team out there could blow this deal out of the water.

At best it's a lateral move for the Jets. Nobody there replaces Kane in the top 6. Hudler is ok as a fringe top 6er, Wideman isn't a fit for the Jets at all, draft picks won't be impactful for 3-4-5 seasons. If the Jets considered a deal like this, they might as well just deal Kane for a whole whack of futures and start looking to tank.

The Jets won't be trading Kane unless it makes them a better team.

What about something like Baertschi+Hudler/Glencross+Russell+2nd?

That's a LOT to give up, but probably a proposal that's needed to get the Jets' attention.

As a Flames fan, I wouldnt do the deal from a Jets perspective. Pretty sure the last thing the Jets would want is more D of Wideman's ilk. Hudler is a nice piece, undervalued on these boards in my opinion, but he isint a good center piece for a trade for a young, top 6 winger with upside. Classic quantity for quality proposal; one drawn up like an accounting ledger instead of for long term impact on the ice. Would love a Kane on our team though, attitude aside.

Given our track record recently with 2nd rounders lately, I'd say no. We haven't given up on Bart yet.

I don't think we've given up on Bart either, just simply putting a more realistic proposal together.

The best thing about this flames team is that they seem to be a close knit group.

Why trade away our second best prospect, a perennial 20 goal guy who had an off year, and two second rounders, for some cocky piece of ****, that isnt that good, who would ruin the chemistry.'

That said the initial trade offer was just disgusting. No one wants Wideman he's our worst player and he is payed the second most on our team.

Even though the drop from 4 to 9 in this draft is huge given that the talent drops significantly after the 5th pick. I'd do it from a flames POV.

Winnipeg drafts Draisatl or Da Colle to replace Kane.

I'm actually okay with that trade. Even though it'll suck missing out on Bennet/Dal Colle/Draisaitl, gives burke a good shot at landing one of Ritchie/Fleury/Kapanen

Edit: Would love to hear some Jets fans opinions on this trade

Don't know how I missed your post, my bad. Thats the oilers with Nurse lol Flames only have Sieloff and Wotherspoon who at most project to be #3/#4 defencemen. Thing is that if Fleury is gone by the flames pick, whose the next best defencemen? McKeown? As much as they need defence men, I still want the flames to pick bpa.

ah

i remember now they got monahan

also any of the teams after edmonton have no real need for defensive prospects or are half and half and since this draft seems to be revolving around big people (for the most part) they're probably choosing a forward.

This is probably closer to what Winnipeg would ask for, though I think the trade with the Jets and Flames swapping picks is also good value. Kane has a tonne of value. There's no reason for the Jets to rush into moving him, if they decide to trade him at all.

Yeah I could see it going that way as well. The more I think about this trade, the more I like it from both teams perspective. I could definitely see Jets asking for a little bit more though.
