TSN shows Basketball over Rangers - Flyers? (Game will be on Sportsnet 360 @ 8pm)

Just looking at the TV Schedule tomorrow and it appears that TSN will not be airing the Rangers - Flyers game.

The main channel will have the Raptors game and TSN2 is airing Bruins - Wings.

Am I wrong in thinking that the Canadian Sports Network would get better ratings for hockey over basketball despite the Raptors being involved? Sucks that we'll miss out on a playoff broadcast in what's turning out to be a pretty good series.

I'd obviously be watching the Bruins anyway, but do like to flip channels during breaks to watch as much hockey as I can.

Does anyone outside of Toronto care about Raptors basketball?

Not surprising (and I don't mean that in a bitter way). The Raptors are a Canadian team. Plus, as you said, TSN is showing an NHL playoff game on their second station.

No biggie, even though I'd obviously love to see Flyers-Rangers.

Of course not.

The Raptors being in the playoffs is huge for the franchise and huge for the city of Toronto. I have absolutely no problem with them showing the Raptors game on the main channel.

I would be shocked if the Flyers - Rangers got better ratings than a Raptors' playoff game. The Raps really are Canada's team for basketball and will likely get solid ratings outside of Ontario.

I get that TV is a business, and the Raptors being in the playoffs is big for Toronto. I'm wondering if that potential would earn them higher ratings than an NHL playoff game, which I assume would be more popular in the rest of Canada.

I'm in Winnipeg, and literally couldn't name a single person who watches basketball.

I couldn't name a player on the Raptors and I'm an absolute sports nut.

Not sure if you're being sarcastic or if that basic tenant of Canadian life is shared by those in the southern US as well.

I think you're wrong. Raptors market is enormous by virtue of being Canada's only basketball team. I find it highly unlikely that Rangers-Flyers would outdraw them.

MOD

No chance the Flyers game would get higher rating then the Raptors. MOD

I may be wrong, but IMO, I'm the target demographic. Young to middle age sports nut with disposable income who hangs out without a bunch of other like minded men. I can't name a single player on the Raptors. I can't name a single person I know who watches basketball.

Let's see how the Raptors game draws, and then we can compare it to Wings - Bruins or another game that was shown on the main channel another evening. I'm not saying I know for sure, I'm simply passing on my personal experience. I'm genuinely curious.

A lot of NHL fans are very insecure. You never/hardly ever see NBA/basketball fans crapping on the NHL/hockey.

Yikes. This would seem to support my view:

https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/eh...225231821.html

"A Friday night game against Philadelphia managed to lure only 97,000 viewers to basketball -- slightly more than the audience for speed skating on CBC earlier in the day."

How am I crapping on the NBA?

I simply don't care, outside of not being able to watch the Flyers - Rangers. If you do care about basketball, good for you.

Let's put it this way, if NBC in the Midwest chose to show a Canadiens - Bolts game instead of an NBA playoff game, do you think that would go over well with basketball fans?

Outside of southern Ontario and maybe Vancouver, 98% of Canadians could care less about basketball, I don't know anyone who watches.
