YES YES YES!

6 Mill is quite a bit though, we're just going to squeak by under the cap.

That or Redden is gone soon.

Still POed

I'll stand by what I said before. Trade him to someone who doesn't care and let's watch him rot.

Give his ice time to Havlat and Alfie and bring in some heart.

I guess 6 million isn't too bad.... considering we have him locked up for 3 more years. I dunno, I think this means Mucks is definatly going to have to dump some salary after this year to retain Redden and Chara, or he may very well have a trade in mind.

I'd be surprised if this was a sign to trade. I think Mucks knows one of Redden or Chara will leave through FA this summer, which further explains what he was saying after drafting Lee.

Why would Hossa settle for anything less when Nash and Lecavalier are getting insane amounts? Hossa has always been a bargain, some would even say underpaid, for the Senators. Contract squabble was never an issue with this guy and he didn't do anything illegal at any point during the contract negotiations.

Granted 3 year, $18 M is a bit steap, as I had him slated to a 3 year/$16.5 M max, but room for salary cap can be made via trade options. Smolinski, Varada and De Vries alone brings in a $5 M+ of cap space. If Ottawa really needs to go beyond that, to keep the core of Chara, Redden, Hossa, Havlat, and Spezza, it would probably have to be Alfie (as much I would hate it) getting the axe.

Enjoy the season folks.

Keep in mind, that the Team 1200 said the 18 million dollar number is not confirmed.

However, if it is 18 million, I fully expect de Vries or Smolinski or both to be on the move.

I think you need to get a better understanding of the business side of the league. This was mainly between Muck and Hossa's agent, don't be so petty by holding a grudge over something that goes on every season across the league ( it is not like he pulled a Yashin and sat out while under contract). He is our best forward whether you like it or not and we need him. I find the price a bit steep but it isn't absurd.

14 players on the roster with 5.4 mil left for 7 to 9 players is not bad? I think the Sens are right up against the cap, barely under the 39 mil right now. Its an impressive team, but there is no room for error right now. No possibility of upgrading Hasek for example, not without dumping some salary first.

THIS IS GREAT NEWS!!!!!

Now we can focus on the cup for the next couple years...... we may lose redden or chara, but the core offense is intact........

I agree de vries or smoke may get traded for nothing, just to shed salary

You're missing the fact that's only 14 players signed.

tsn has it at 28,650,000

+ 6,000,000 for hossa
+ hamel, emery, vermette, volchenkov, martins, malec and eaves are undisclosed
thats a minimum of 3,150,000 if they all make the minimum

so you have a minimum of 37,800,000 commited

but i doubt all 7 of those guys are right at the minumum, look for a salary to be moved

We are at 38.355 for a roster of 23 players. This is including the deals those undiscolsed players got (some got higher than min)

Well, I'm glad that Hossa is one of the key players that we're keeping, but that's an awful lot of money. We'd really better hope that there's a cap increase next season or else this will serve as a clear line drawn in the sand.

What the HECK does holding out and playing with heart have anything to do with eachother?

I'm not saying that Havlat is all heart like a guy like Fisher, but he's no floater either.

Havlat does have some, especially when he get's PO'd...which has been happening more often as he gets older.
