Brian Boucher or Brent Johnson maybe a good person to bring in. No goalie should be given (lehtonen) it must be earned and the starter displaced. I'd make a deal with Phoenix. It's important for Alanta to have a competitive team. Very sad about Nurm.

Brent Johnson ??

Give me a break... thereīs a whole thread around here filled with reasons why NOT to get Brent Johnson.

" Hey Pasi, how are you doing man ? Just wanted to say we replaced you by Brent Johnson !"

How would that make you feel ???

Thereīs still Felix the Cat, Lord Byron, Two Blockers and an old man out of Latvia !
Pick one.

I also read somewhere that Pasi Nurminen and Kari Lehtonen were very good friends, which makes this suck even worse for Atlanta.

Hurme is signed with the Thrashers, but if I'm not mistaken he had some injury issues of his own that were fairly substantial.

Lehtonen's probably ready to go, but geez, makes me nervous to throw in a young guy on a team like Altanta.

I'd go with those that say bring in Potvin. Still a respectable goalie, can win a game or two on occasion, and can ease the burden on Lehtonen's shoulders.

Plus, competition is always a good thing - Lehtonen, Hurme, Potvin - see what sticks. It's not unusual for teams to have 3 potential goalies going into the season, just a bit of juggling involved.

I can't find anything about this on any sites, other than the site linked but I have no idea what its says.

I personally believe this story is bogus, why would the Thrashers re-sign him on Aug 11 (RFA) for the guy to retire on Aug 23rd?

Well, that didnīt work very well in Detroit..
You should have a Number 1 and a Number 2, or two equalls.

But donīt let them "just see where it ends", that hasnīt worked for any team..

The link pretty much says that the doctors told him to quit the game, 'cos otherwise he would probably have to walk the rest of his life with crouches. The injury happend about 2 weeks ago. This is also reported in the most respectable sports magazine here in Finland, as well as YLE (the Finnish version of BBC), and it is also confirmed by Pasi himself. So no, I don't think the story is BS.

Pasi hurt his knee around the time he signed his contract. I do not know if it was before or after.

Hurme is currently on the Thrashers injured list, and I was expecting the Thrashers to try and get an excemption for his salary against the cap.

IMO this is a severe blow to the Thrashers playoff hopes. I expected the Thrashers to go with a tandem in net this year.

The question now is does DW go with an aging vet to mentor Kari, or bring in a younger goalie to push Kari for ice time.

Jeezzz.. then what kind of an injury is this ??
He must have had a history with this knee, not ?

itīs hard to imagine that he hurt his knee (bone, muscle, nerves ???) in such manner out of the blue that he has to stop playing hockey otherwise he canīt walk anymore ?
I know soccer players who had the most terrible knee injuries and they still play.

Iīm not ridiculing him or any of that, I feel bad for him.
But Iīm just curious..

The other question, is how did he hurt his knee. The Thrashers resigned him on Aug 11th (under 2 weeks ago). They would not of signed him if he was hurt. There is no Hockey leagues going on that I am aware of.

He was training with hometown team Pelicans (which are partly owned by Nurminen)
when the injury occurred. He felt something in the cartilage of his knee and immediately knew that it was bad.

As for Hurme, he's cured from the mystery disease which plagued him the past year ot two. Unfortunately, while training, he suffered a mild stress fracture. His knees couldn't take the intense training after a long lay off.

I guess I am on the skeptical side of things. I will wait for the official retirement from TSN or NHL.com or NHLPA.com before I believe it. I am shocked the Thrasher don't have their Medical staff look at the player. Its tough to think of an injury that could happen to a players knee to force him to retire immediately. Especially since what Steve Yzerman has had done to his knee.

What brutual luck for Pasi.

He hurt his knee while practising with Pelicans, an FEL team here in Finland, about two weeks ago. The doctors ruling came a week ago. Many Finnish NHL'ers have practised with their old teams during this and previous summers, because they want to be in good shape when the season has always started.

He says that there has been an injury in the knee before, but that this injury has nothing to do with it. Cartilage (sp?) in his knee has broken down somehow. Pasi has gone through surgery now, but the doctors seem to be quite sure that he will never be able to play again, without risking his ability to walk again.

This is just what I've been reading from reliable sources.
