5 reasons the Montreal Canadiens swept the Tampa Bay Lightning

So, how did Habs/Bolts come to be a 4-0 sweep? Weren’t these two teams supposed to be locked in for a close series? Weren’t their regular season battles tighter than two coats of paint?

I don't see refereeing on that list. It's actually refreshing.

I don't think reffing had any affect on this series. People are only talking about it because of the disallowed goal and the terrible call last night.

5 Reasons

1. Habs forecheck
2. Habs ability to generate offense from their 2nd, 3rd, 4th lines
3. Lindback
4. Lindback
5. Lindback

Moderately good control of Stamkos plus superior goaltending and D (and the surprising eruption of Mt. Bourque).. The Bolts have some interesting young players and will be back.

You don't need more reason than Lindback.

Because Ryan Malone was caught with cocaine and missed the series.

He was the only one on Tampa that consumed cocaine, we all know.

-Tampa's goaltending
-Tampa's terrible defense
-Callahan stinks.

I wonder what happens if Bishop is back etc... this series would have been long and tough.

I don't know why no one else sees that Bishop is such an over rated goalie. He's good, but not as good as his numbers. He's a big guy who takes up a lot of space. He spends most of the game on his bloody knees!

If he is so good, then why has he been up and down his whole carreer? The most games he's played in the NHL were this year (by far) and he's already 27. One season does not a good goalie make.

Granted, Montreal seems to have trouble with him, but that's because we don't have a lot of net presence.

yes.....but you cant blame Lindback for such **** poor defense.

As much as Lindback let in some soft ones, having guys like Briere end up completely alone in front of you when your whole team is chasing 1 guy in the corner of the rink doesn't help.

Tampa was too young and took a major blow in losing Bishop. But they have a good core and coach, plus a blue chip prospect, so they will be back next year.

Years you win a cup you need breaks along the way. It's the difference between having a good playoff and a great playoff. Like '93 Islanders upsetting Mario and the Pens. Steve Smith shooting puck into his own net in '86.

The one and only reason we won................DEPTH.

Tampa has none and you take Bishop out of the picture.

Easy series.

Tampa's vets didn't show up. Filppula, Callahan, Salo, Brewer. Weren't these guys supposed to lead their young players? No show. This series made me appreciate Gionta more.

Of course, Habs' depth. Bourque-Eller-Gionta looked like a first line out there.

For once, we didn't really have to rely on Price. Team actually played like a team, top to bottom.

There's also leadership in every line and every pairing.

I didn't read the article or any comment. Here is my two cents on "why habs swept lightning".

1) habs forecheck
2) bad defense from 3-7 for Tampa.
3) lindback didn't play bad but he didn't make the saves he needed to make.
4) habs clogging up neutral zone and preventing lightning from entering and setting up.
5) secondary scoring (Bork, eller, gionta, Weise, briere).
6) solid play from 5-6 D and bottom 6 forwards
7) stamkos was not 100%
8) no bishop.

Here's somethings that didn't happen, depending how you look at it can be bad or good. If they happen in the next round

1) price stealing games
2) subban going into playoff mode (sneak peak on Gallagher goal)
3) Prust physical domination
4) desharnais line generating offense
5) lethal Power play.
6) healthy Galchenyuk
7) moen-Weise-Prust line

Tampa reminded me of the habs last year. (See reasons 1 and 2)

1) Banged up
2) lost the goaltending battle
3) their bottom 6 got badly outplayed by the habs bottom 6

You only need those 3 reasons to explain this series.

They lost last year's Art Ross winner and this year's Vezina candidate. I wonder if MSL will change his mind this summer and go back with them.

[edit] Eh he is signed for one more season.

Only NHLer to do so, in fact.

It's tacitly understood. Reffing in the playoffs is more inconsistent than the regular season.

It affects every game. Especially, apparently, if it's a Quebec born ref working in a Montreal game.

In truth, I feel bad for Ron. His history reeks of fairness and open-mindedness. I think he was speaking in terms of appearance and scrutiny, rather than an indictment of regionalism. But he's a seasoned pro, and his words were very poorly chosen. Tough lesson. It may affect his contract next year.

5 points in 4 games for a defenceman. What more do you need?
