The Jason Spezza Rally

We need to support our captain, this guy has done everything needed for the Sens and has received little love from the fans/media. The RSU is organizing a Jason Spezza rally, we have already received a bit of media coverage

http://www.ottawasun.com/2014/04/21/...to-save-spezza

I personally want him to stay in Ottawa and sign an extension. Even if you're not a huge fan of Jason, I really think we need to thank him for all the great years he's been here. We had a very sour good bye to Alfie and Heatley but we need to show this guy that we appreciate all the hard work he's done for the team.

It would be great to also show the world how great we are as fans to unite like this and support Spezza.

This has the potential to have the opposite effect of what the organizers want. Media coverage of a spezza rally where 10 people show up isn't going to be good.

That's basically what happened the last time they tried to do this.

It provided some laughs at least.

Well now the RSU is a lot bigger than it was before, and that was a different situation.
I'm not going to make excuses but this isn't a joke, our fanbase isn't as passionate as before and it's really sad. We boo our own captain, we let other teams fans take over our arena, and the minute the Sens go thru a rough patch everyone starts hating and stop going to games. We're treating an elite player like garbage, and it's truly disgusting IMO. But this rally isn't about whether or not we want Jason Spezza to stay, this is about thanking him for all the years of hard work and dedication he's had here. If you're not interested then that's fine, but don't be surprised when other players look at the Spezza situation and don't come here. You have to remember that Alfie was the scape goat once too, and so was Yzerman back in the days for Detroit.

So you're saying that our fans are pushovers?

Like when your "organization" got strong-armed into changing their name, for example.

They should have tried to boost the numbers by joining forces with the pro-pot rally over the weekend. A "Stoned for Spezza" rally definitely could have worked.

I don't care if you think this is a joke.
I personally feel like Ottawa is a lot less attractive for players because of the way players are pressured, the way the media is and how fans sell their tickets to rival teams to make a few bucks. I know we're not winning but wow, no passion in these fans whatsoever. I guess Spezza's efforts means nothing to the fans, he's just another player.

Can we just make this a "Fire Don Brennan" rally?

If so I will be there bright and early.

I've been using everything, twitter/fb/all hockey related things. I don't really care what people think, this guy deserves a thank you from us Sens fans.

Hey I know you want to show your support for Spezza and there isn't anything wrong with that.

I don't happen to agree with most of what you wrote. That's all.

Ottawa is like kindergarten compared to a lot of cities. If you think Spezza or whoever got a rough ride from the fans or impotent hacks like Don Brennan...

It's child's play compared to Toronto, Montreal, New York, Philly, Boston, etc...

Ottawa is easy street. If a player can't cut it here, they're hopeless.

That could actually work. One of the Spezza supporters should just bring a bunch of pro spezza signs and a hockeybag full of cookies, everyone who participates gets free cookies!

I like the idea of the rally, and i agree with it's cause. I'm just skeptical of the results. Perhaps im jaded

Won't be here for it, and as others, am pessimistic about it. Good luck, nevertheless. Spezza deserves some support.

You do realize that there is no democratic process in the NHL, right? So riddle me this. In what world will a rally on the hill translate into action in the executive wings of CTC?

This whole ordeal is so rash and emotional, that the correct location for such an event wasn't even chosen. Not that such an event holds any value regardless. You aren't going to change our GM's mind one way or another.

But theoretically, if your chants and cries could pluck at Bryan Murray's heartstrings, the front steps of CTC would be a good place to start. Or perhaps the rear parking lot, where you might even get a word in edge wise with team executives.

Anyhow, don't make this fanbase look overly pathetic, ok?

$5 to whomever shows up with a sign saying "I disagree with them" and stands 10 feet away from everyone else.

I bet if 20000 or so people showed up, the Sens organization would pay attention.

The trouble is, you could find people that wanted Spezza traded since his first day in the league.

His style of play bothers a lot of people.

Anyway. Good luck.

Pretty much what I was going to say.

Although even if it is small (maybe only 50ish people) I think it could still help. If Spezza knows that there are fans here who appreciate him unlike the Sun it will go a long way t him resigning here.

I'm sure there are a lot more than that that want him to stay, I just doubt they'll go through the hassle of rallying on Parliament Hill.
