DIO I agree with your sentiments completely. It seems like a lot of people have the sentiment that a top prospect needs to be in the NHL. I couldn't disagree more.
If an offensive wizard like Drouin (who destroyed the CHL and was good at WJC) went back............you know what I'm not going to waste my time. People will think what they want to think.
This is pretty much the case for the entire internet.
No place you go to has unanimous thinking.
Take solace (or apprehension) in the fact that the actual decisions get made irrespective of what people on web forums think or say.
I think no matter who we take, this player will not make a large impact on our team for 2-3 years (unless we get Ekblad) so the real goal of this summer will be for macT to make his big bold move and for us to hope that the Scriv/Viktor duo is strong enough to carry us to the promise land
Same rehashed questions and answers that we always get, but the icing on the cake was only hearing 1/3 of Bennett's interview, because he was cutting out constantly, and even went mute for quite a few seconds a few times.
I wish the media cared about asking new, and informative questions.
"So, uh, Doug Gilmour, and you, and uh, type of style you play is like Richards and Toews, and uh, your work ethic is from your Dad, right?"
I have yet to hear anyone ask a prospect of their weakness. We hear it in job interviews for Christ's sake.
I know, but the reason(excuse) was the relative proximity to Sweden was it not?
IIRC, it had to do with his wife having to move to Edmonton with the quote, "It would be like moving to Siberia." Had nothing to do with proximity to Sweden.
A frustrated Lowe thought he had a deal for Nylander. Lowe said: "In a sombre voice, (Nylander) told me 'I just couldn't do it.' It was like his wife freaked out, like she was being shipped to Siberia or something."
Regardless of who we take-Bennet or LD- I think we need to come to terms that we cannot do with them what we did with Gagner and Nuge. We can't throw them into a top 6 NHL centre role before they're ready. Whoever we take, it will probably be at least 3+ years until they become a RELIABLE impact player at the NHL level. In the meantime, sign or trade for a #2 C. Berglund, Dubinsky, Grabovski, Richards, are a few names being thrown around that would be the trick. If Bennet or LD prove good enough to make the club next year, start them on the wing. Mackinnon played on the wing all season. We need centres bad, but we cannot expect an 18 year old to come in and be the answer to our problems at C right away.
