I think the Sharks are done like dinner.

Sucks because I'm cheering for them and because I picked them in my bracket. (Yes, those two things are related but not entirely interdependent either)

This Sharks collapse is blowing my mind. I mean L.A. is good, but the Sharks look done... They've been absolutely dominated the last 3 games.

The Sharks will win their next game and limp into the second round. They don't have what it makes to be a play-off team, which is extremely surprising.

Goaltending goes a long way?

I'm 5/8 so far - I also picked NYR, Colorado and SJ so if they win I get bragging rights at the workplace (plus some cash)

So please SJ, win this game for me.

Sharks will have some game left in them.

You need a break or two...sometimes...to win a tight series.

I thought SJ got a couple calls tonight.

And then it all went against them on the GWG. I've read the rules. I've looked at the replays. I've taken two or three steps back to make sure...and I am sure.

That was the wrong call.

Doesn't matter now.

SJ needs to win the next one...otherwise...all the choke labels are going to be permanently hung on this team and I think that would be a damned shame...but...impossible to argue.

If San Jose loses game 7, I wonder if that gets Coach Todd into some sudden hot water. He's been there for a while now and I don't think the Sharks have made passed the 2nd round under him.

He was hired in 2008 by the Sharks. They made it to WCF in 2010 and 2011, but were swept by Chicago and lost 4-1 to Vancouver, respectively.

Hope LA wins as it may cause the Sharks to panic and make some rash moves to their roster, which is almost designed perfectly to bully the Oilers for the next few seasons. If they start moving key pieces or disrupt the core, it may be one of the many breaks the Oilers will need to become a contender in the Pacific in the future.

If McLellan is fired we need to get him.

Sharks playing the toughest matchup for them with no #1 d-man and bad goaltending.

I have the same as you, but with LA instead of SJ. However I wouldn't be opposed to COL losing. These stupid Roy fans are out in full force these playoffs.

MTL-COL final and I'll have to take a trip out of the country.

What is happening to SJ and STL is exactly what I worry about us. Not that I think we are going to be a contender anytime soon, but it's amazing how many people thought that a rebuild automatically will results in championships. What's more amazing is people still think we have a cup in the next 10 years.

Simply put winning the cup isn't a guarantee no matter what you do. So how does one justify firing a good coach/GM? Ones that have kept the team competitive year after year? Just seems wrong. At some point isn't there an understanding that maybe the cup just isn't possible or is a longshot?

If you were their GM would you go after a true number 1 or reliable starting goaltending?

I'd probably go after a true #1 - for a while, they had that in Boyle, and while I really like Vlasic a whole bunch, I feel he's like the ultimate #2, if that makes sense.

The Sharks, as much as they have forward depth, really don't have the best d corps, and while they've always had pretty decent goaltending, they've honestly just had the bad luck for their goalies not to be hot in the playoffs.

Sure, you can apply the choke label to them, and I guess it's valid, but with so much parity in the league, and with a small sample size, luck plays into it. I mean, the Sharks hit the crossbar, then the Kings go down and score a goal where the goalie was pushed into the net and somehow it stands.

But a team that is playing past-their-due-date guys like Boyle, Hannan and Stuart on D just isn't going to the Cup.

Let me put it this way: imagine Doughty on the Sharks.

Maybe they can trade Couture for McDonagh or something.

Well the two UFA goalies are Miller and Hiller. Not a great group of playoff performers...

I don't see a team giving up a proven winner in a trade either.

And really, the stats tell us there's really only a few very top-level goalies, and a bunch of good-to-great ones.

Niemi is in the good-to-great ones, and I wouldn't give up on him. In many ways, he hasn't been the problem, but he also hasn't stolen a game for the Sharks.

Every time I think this might the year the Sharks actually turn it around, they find new ways to surprise me... It's actually similar to how I feel about Flower, although he was able to bounce back and close out the Jackets.

But hey, there's still tonight's game. Is there any chance this could just be the ultimate fortitude-builder for a Sharks run?

(... I didn't think so, either...)

As for tonight's game: I really don't care much for either the Flyers or the Rangers, but I'd much rather see a Pens-Philly series than a Pens-NYR one.

If things break the right way, we could soon see a second round of:

COL-CHI
ANA-LA

BOS-MTL
PIT-PHI

That would be pretty damn awesome.

So... I guess... go Flyers?

Goaltending.

Their D has some pretty decent D-man on it, maybe needs some tweaking (need better puck movers), but Niemi has crapped the bed a few times. Goaltending sees to be easier to fix, given how many good goalies have moved, it'd be easiest fix without blowing up the team imo.

The overriding rationale of this rule is that a goalkeeper should have the ability to move freely within his goal crease without being hindered by the actions of an attacking player

The Sharks got jobbed last night.

You never know what you are going to get with goaltending. Seems like all you get is a short term fix most of the time anyway.

Halak as well.

I dont think goaltending is the sharks issue though. Niemi has proven to be good enough. He has won a cup and was a Vezina finalist a year ago.

He's a good goalie.
