So, not only do you take FLA's franchise player, you also expect them to throw in one of their best prospects at the same time.
Personally, I don't think Florida would bite on a deal with Bertuzzi as the central component. He has question marks around him now, after a bad year and the whole Steve Moore thing.
Cloutier is just plain mediocre.
So, there isn't much of a basis for a deal here. And, you certainly won't be getting Horton or Stewart in the same trade.
i love the way darth brings the cold stink of reality to a thread sometimes.

Keep telling yourselves that your 4th line veteren scum have a place in a deal for Luongo, but rest assured your wrong. The very fact your keen to trade them tells me you dont value them highly. Also, every team have about 50 guys who could play the 4th line.
Also, a goalie DOES need to come back in return, its common bloody sense. If you want Luongo you DO need to "dismantle" your team because he is worth it.
Vancouver fans, do you like the sounds of this??
Naslund and Kesler
for
Hagman, Novak, Shantz, 1st and 2nd Rounder
I'm not absolutely sure a goalie needs to come back in the Luongo trade. It's just a matter of the Panthers swinging a second deal, say for somebody like Biron or Noronen from Buffalo or Martin Gerber or Ilya Bryzgalov from Anaheim. Goalie values are at an all time low. There are guys who are ready to start who can be had for pennies on the dollar. So the Panthers can trade for one of these guys and ship Luongo off for a big time player (ya'll can argue about who).

NO????????
Well its better than what you have been giving us
Jake, i've noticed your posts decidedly heading towards flat out p.o.'d, and I wanted to commiserate with you a bit. As we all expected, the trade talk has become non-stop. But to put it in perspective, Louies a huge asset to aquire. This, in fact, is nothing new. I'm not speaking solely about Roberto proposals either. For as long as I remember, whenever the Panthers aquired someone who could actually make us a better team (i.e. Bouw, Horton, etc.) the vultures would swoop in and look to take him away from us for some spare parts and a pick. The thought process being, " well, the Panthers suck so lets take this player from them because they're gonna suck anyway." Nobody want us to turn the corner. We have some promising youngsters, a couple vets now, and a chance to bring a winning atmosphere around here for a change. Now take our star away? I believe it's a case of the "big market, etc." sense of entitlement. We've been good awhile, we should stay good. You guys are terrible, stay terrible crap. I hope this new CBA does swing everything towards parity, because that will make me a happy man. I guess my point is relax, the tide will head the other direction, and it'll be fun to watch them squirm.
VCR fans are dramatically over estimating Jovocop's value, given that he will hit UFA status this coming summer.
Do the Cats really want to give up Luongo for a one year rental fo Jovo?
Seems fair considering Loungo is also under contract for only one year and will be asking for a huge raise the next season. A raise the nucks probably wouldn't be able to afford.
Yeah, its just gets hard to not be frustrated by the ignorance and stupidity of some people. Fans overate their own guys, which I can understand - it shows their are passionate and lose their team - but they use their heart and not their head way too much.
I strongly hope, and strongly believe that Luongo will remain in Florida long-term, but until that happens, trade proposals will happen and therefore I must stand up for Luoie and ridicule retarded proposals.
But Im hoping in never comes to this. I hope Louie is sincere when saying that he loves South Florida and wants to play here. Lets get him locked up for five years after this season.

If we had to trade Luongo this would be the best deal thus far, IMO, but I doubt Vancouver would accept and Jovo is only under contract for one more year.
IMO this is a very similar situation to when Phoenix HAD to trade Khabibulin. An elite goalie wanting way more money than the team was willing to pay.
Khabibulin was traded to Tampa Bay by Phoenix with Stan Neckar for:
Mike Johnson - a good second line winger
Paul Mara - a promising defenseman
Ruslan Zainullin - mid level prospect
and NY Islanders' 2nd round choice (previously acquired, Phoenix selected Matthew Spiller)
Maybe a good comparison for the kid of return Florida can expect?

What would the Florida package look like if Jovanovski was not part of the Vancouver package?

The difference here ducky is that Khabibulin was already a holdout for over a year. He had played with the Long Beach Ice Dogs the previous season in the IHL. Luongo is a guaranteed signed player with restricted rights next year as well. You're comparing apples and oranges here..

Yes Luongo is guaranteed. And it looks like he is guaranteed to be an UNHAPPY PANTHER.
No it is not an exact situation but pretty close IMO.
Even a year+ off the NHL is similar.
In Luongo's case you have to add in the additional complication of the salary cap. If he wants $6 million a year that will be harder to trade him ie lower his value baecause it eats up so much in a team's salary structure.
My point is Florida will not likely get 3 or 4 star players as some posters seem to believe. Likewise teams will have to offer quality to get him.
Johnson is a top 6 winger. Mara is a top 4 defenseman. Zainulin was a bust. Spiller has potential as a number 5 or 6 dman with some upside. Pretty good value for a goalie Phoenix had to trade. Phoenix did well.
As for Phoenix making an offer for Luongo it seems unlikely. Doan has been identified as the franchise player. He makes a little over 3 million. He is the top paid player on the team. It makes little sense to deal Doan for Luongo as it would do as much harm as good. Trading others for Luongo would make Luongo the "franchise" paid player and possible upset the salary structure on the team.
Im not going to argue for Doan anymore. You guys would think Luongo is worth Forsberg right after the Avs win the cup. ****ing rediculous. Cant win a cup without a team, and anyone trading for Luongo is going to have to give up a sizeable part of their team.
Not a fan of either team......and I am one who thinks Luongo is over rated....but this statement does not make sense.....
How does Forsberg get mentioned......surely you dont put Doan in his class. I like Doan a lot....he brings a lot to the table.....but he is a 25 goal 60+ point guy with some intangibles....your analogy is a poor one
Luongo will be a Panther for a very very long time. He said so on TSN (Canada's sports network) and I am sure he did so in the Florida media as well.
Florida has ample funds and cap room to sign Luongo to 6 or 7 million a season for a long term contract. But since the NHL lockout will effect them more than most teams (like Toronto where I grew up) it is prudent to wait and see what the financial picture of the Panthers and the NHL is after this coming season. If NHL revenue decline then so does the cap according to the new CBA so next year's cap could be lower than 39 million. At that time Keenan will sign Luongo to a long term deal (still one year before he becomes a unrestricted free agent) for maximum dollars. Luongo will have an awesome year this year in goal for the Panthers and thanks to two ex-leafs Roberts and Nieuwendyk the Panthers should have a great year.
Relax all you Florida fans. You are going to get to keep your great goalie for a long long time.
