Because if you want a combination of speed and size, you generally have to be drafting in the early 1st round.

Ponikarovsky is not slow

Stajan and Colaiacovo are 6'1...they just need to add muscle, like almost all young players/prospects

Carlo has actually been working out a lot:

Carlo Colaiacovo has gone from playing the waiting game to the weight-lifting game.

I guess that when you ignore fast ones like Earl and big ones like Sagat and Kronwall you end up with a list that gets your shorts all in a knot.

Last time I checked, Datsyuk and Zetterberg weren't exactly giants. Please get a grip.

Like most other prospects don't?

We don't have a Crosby, Phaneuf, Malkin or Ovechkin. Where were these players drafted? Oh yeah, in the top ten. Why the hell weren't we drafting in the top ten? Oh right, we were posting 100 point seasons and trying to win the cup..

Bruins fans are touting Boyes right now. Rangers touting Immonen. Did Hedstrom just get re-signed?

Some of those Wing prospects are no further ahead.

As good as Zetterberg is, he has never produced more than Nik Antropov in a single season. I don't know why you'd be so willing to sing the praises of a guy whose career high in points is 44, while you write off our guy whose career high has been 45 points. Not to mention that they're both the same age and our guy has the potential to also be a physical center.

Our prospects are good enough. We just have a team that's good enough so that we don't have to brag about our prospects.

That and we were trading everyone from the first to eighth rounds away for a decade.

Personally, I think it's a miracle we have the prospects that we do.

What an absolutely ridiculous thread. That's all I'm going to say right now. I don't have the patience to elaborate any further.

antropov - Slow, but his skating is good enough. His size outways any skating woes!
ponikarovsky - Not that slow
wellwood - Yeah he's slow
j.harrison - They drafted him because he was big, could hit and was defensive

stajan - He needs to bulk but he isn't to small
coliaicovo - 6'1 190lbs+, he's not too small
steen - finesse forward, not to small

Just a couple of things...

Colaiacovo is now 6'1" & 205lbs That's not even near the area of small...

Wellwood was 0.1 sec slower than the AHL average at the All-star game last year. That isn't slow, he just isn't lightning fast...

Sorry you're going to have to explain something to me. You started this thread asking why our prospects are either too small or too slow. When it was pointed out that other prospects are small, you agreed, but then argued that they are still really good. *** is the point of this thread exactly?

It's just pointless moaning and groaning.

Fear and Loathing in Toronto.

I agree, it's no great mystery. Toronto is probably the worst drafting team in the league, especially in the first two rounds. In Antropov we actually managed to find one of the very few players to come out the former Soviet bloc who can't skate.

Really, it isn't that bad.

The bigger problem is they're all owned by other teams now.

Even Al Rourke is a valued member.
