Draisaitl (aka 3rd/4th overall pick) to the Pens

I would love to draft him, as I have high hopes on him.

Goc and Vitale might leave us. That, combined with the fact, that JJ and Stempniak might leve will open some spots.

I think that Duper is done. Buy him out. Keep Sid and Malkin together, let Draisaitl play C2 and Sutter C3.

My offer for the 3rd/4th pick would be:

1rst
2nd
Despres
Megna

thoughts?

edit: original offer seems to be to low, here's my 2nd offer

1rst 2014, 1rst 2015
2nd 2014, 2nd 2015
Despres
Megna

3rd offer:

Letang
1rst 2014

Oilers probably don't do that: Seems like a quantity for quality deal.

you're not getting a top 5 pick for scraps

The third deal would interest me if Letang wasn't having health issues. Honestly though, the only interesting pieces Pittsburgh has for the third pick are untouchables.

I doubt Dupper is gone, unless he retires. Stemp, hopefully resigns because man, I love his play for us. Vitale will be cheap and Goc, he is iffy if we get him or not. I dont think the Pens to ship players off to get a 3rd/4th overall pick. Letang or Martin could be trade bait at the draft to get a winger but other than that, I dont see it happening

3rd deal is too much for my tastes. I'd prefer trading up a couple picks and getting a guy like Ho-sang

The first one, oh boy. I'm sure you can get into the top 10 pick for that though.

The 2nd offer is better of course, but I just don't see it happening. CGY offered COL the 6th overall pick plus two more 1st round picks and it was a no. Can't imagine a team would trade out of the top 10 altogether. In fact I can't recall the last time it happenend, outside of the pick being traded outright for a good roster player - Staal, and Schneider.

A team trading a top pick is going to want help NOW.

Buffalo, Florida, and Calgary arent moving their picks IMO, too early in the rebuild. Which leaves Edmonton.

They need defencemen and centres with size. Pittsburgh obviously doesnt have a centre of high enough calibre outside of their top two, which leaves dmen as the option. Neal as a winger with size would be enticing to Edmonton, but ultimately thats what Pittsburg would be hoping for with Draisaitl, so why bother?

Looking at the options from the blueline.

Letang? After this past season, i dont think anybody throws a 3rd overall pick at him and that contract given his injuries three seasons in a row.

Harrington, Despres, etc? Theyre not any better then prospects that Edmonton already has. Theyre good pieces, but not part of a conversation for a 3rd overall pick aside from being an add-on to something else.

Paul Martin? Good player, but not worth a 3rd overall pick, especially given he's 33 years old.

Which leaves... Maatta. Dont like it? We're talking about a 3rd overall pick here. I wouldnt do that as a Pens fan, but from Edmontons perspective I think thats the only thing that really makes sense. Maybe it could be expanded but I think he would need to be the primary piece going back.

I really like Maata but we seriously have way too may left shot Dmen as it is. I would rather keep the pick and gamble on Klefbom and Nurse.

The value is close. Maata is a late 1st pick who increased his value during the season.

If EDM trades that pick it has to be for a 2c with size around 25 that is proven or

A right shooting proven number 2 dman not 2nd pairing but a 2 dman knowing that EDM would have to add

Maatta is what it would take... really no incentive for the Oil to do anything else with PIT... Letang would have been the guy before that but obviously not now... still gets fatigued apparently and it is just too risky...

Bottom line... Pens just do not have the expendable assets today to get this deal done.

Don't see the Pens able to make this move without including Maatta

Nuge, Perron, 3rd OA for Malkin? I know it never happens, but is the value there?

Hall-Malkin-Yak would be just lethal.

Doesn't work for the Oilers, they need a 2C more than the pens do.

Pittsburgh would need to give up Maatta and Bennet to trade up that high.

Of the top 5 I think Edmonton and Islanders are the most likely to trade down.

If Draisaitl is still on the board at 4, I could see Calgary making a deal.

Something like 4th overall for Maata & Despres. Or Letang & a first.

In no way should the Pens be trading Maatta or Letang to move up into the top five in this draft, let alone the top 7.

The Pens aren't rebuilding. They don't need a top 5 pick. Fill holes on July 1 & through other trades.

I see draft picks are still being violently overrated on this site. The Pens would have to add to an established top pair D that was a Norris candidate for a player who has never played a pro game? Where is the logic in that? Edmonton would have to add to the 3rd overall pick to get Letang, not the other way around. It's just like the insane people who said the Habs would have to add to Subban to get the top pick in 2012. How is that looking now?

The most I'd do is Maatta and a 2nd. If that's not enough, I don't care. The top of this draft isn't strong, and Maatta is a much safer bet at this point than any of the top picks.

No one is saying that. He recently edited in the Letang trade. The original offer was god awful and the Pens would certainly have had to add.

Letang's health issues have caused his value to drop like a rock.
