@Real_ESPNLeBrun 48s
Halak's agent Allan Walsh and the Isles have already had a brief conversation about wanting to get a contract done. Mutual interest there..

On paper I guess it's close, but in practice, with Oates' terrible system, the Caps are definitely worse.

Nothing to dislike on either side. Good move for both teams.

Even if Halak doesn't sign in NYI, it shows a commitment to improving goaltending, which is important.

He's definitely an upgrade to Isles had this year.

Only if they still had Nino

Solid move by the Islanders. Hopefully they can get Halak signed quickly to a 3-4 year deal. It will really help the Islanders in terms of attracting and re-signing free agents if they have that position solidified.

The rebuild has been going on for 6 years and is nearly done. If Halak was an Islander this year, they would have made the playoffs. Just like they did last year (seems like people forget that). Not so sure he would have a better opportunity anywhere else. Remember there are quite a few free agent goalies looking for work.

Good on the Isles for at least making a move before the rush of the draft and free agency.

True, but I will continue to ask about Gibson

In all seriousness, great move for the Isles. Gotta get a contract hammered out, but I'm confident based on his agent's comments. He's open to signing, and the fact that Snow traded for his rights should imply that they are willing to pay up for him.

I'll be surprised if something doesn't get done.

Why wouldnt he sign? He will be given 60+ games a year, and will have no competition for the #1 job. The isles are fighting for the playoffs with a decent #1 goalie.

How does Snow still have his job?
This is pretty good trade, contrary to Snow's previous deals. Also if Jaro doesn't sign. its only a 4th where there's maybe 2-3 players chosen each year that become regular NHLers, most being 3rd or 4th line. Halak is an above average goalie.

There really aren't many uncontested #1 jobs available around the league. It's not as if he'll be swimming with options.

Suddenly, things don't look so bleak on LI. Get it done Garf!

Can he even afford to be messing around after the Vanek debacle? His career could easily depend on his aggressiveness this season.

Pretty good trade for the Isles. Now they have a bit to talk contract.

Sign Elliott as the backup, and you just stole STL's old pairing of goaltenders.

Halak 3 x 4m

Elliott 3 x 3m

Halak needs to be kept busy or else he falters. Thankfully, the Isles suck on D and thus give up a ton of shots, so Halak will bring his "A" game.

it's a step in the right direction. I hope they get a deal done. In other news how's our boy J.T. coming along in his rehab? is he on the Island or at home in T.O.?

With Wang as owner Garth will never have to worry about his job being in jeopardy. Clearly Snow is feeling pressure with the team being for sale.

Why's that? He has 3 seasons with 40+ games and a .920+ sv%, in 2009-10, 2011-12 and 2013-14.

He played 52 games this year and finished with a .923 sv%. His career playoff save percentage is .923 in 23 games.

More importantly, his play vastly improved going to a team with much worse defence (like the Islanders). He had a .930 sv% with Washington.

Seems like a smart move on the Islanders' part.

During the last game of the season they had an interview with JT during the game, and he said if they had made the playoffs he would have been ready to go. So if I had to guess I would say he is back in Toronto.

Wow, I definitely sensed that Snow might move a mid-round pick to negotiate with a UFA goaltender.

Very smart move and I will be more than pleased if we can get Halak signed to a deal... giving up a 4th (a late 4th that we got for Bouchard/Regin I believe) and solving our goaltending issues.

Those tweets about there being "mutual interest" sound very promising indeed.
