LOL, you're concerned with JT in all of this?!? When you get a cut, do little red and white maple leafs come out instead of blood?

From all reports, he should be ready to take the ice again about now. He had several interviews where he said the rehab is going great. He won't miss a beat on his usual offseason routine.

Love this move! Isles biggest need last year was goaltending. I'm one of the few that believes they will be a playoff team next year.

More importantly, his play vastly improved going to a team with much worse defence (like the Islanders). He had a .930 sv% with Washington.

Seems like a smart move on the Islanders' part.
Would've preferred Reimer or Niemi personally.

So happy right now Halak was my number one choice. Great fit for us.

Lets get this done sign him to a nice contract and let him be the #1 with nobody looking over his shoulder.

You've got to be kidding me. Reimer? What? In any case, and in our case especially, beggars can't be choosers. Anything is an upgrade for us.

Watching the first round of the playoffs this season, I started to worry that more teams than initially predicted might be looking for a new goalie, making this summer a far more difficult goalie market for the Islanders. Glad to see the Islanders get a two month head start on getting their guy.

He's gonna sign in LI and give a big middle finger to WSH a few times a year for booing him lol. We are division rivals now after all.

I just hope he does not want to sit against them lol

Standard practice by a lot of teams.

Isles have probably the biggest need in goal around the league, there's a lot of options available but want to corner the market early and can possibly get their top guy now.

A conditional 4th is a lot to pay?

You realize EDM paid a third for the less accomplished Scrivens, who was also an impending UFA?

fourth team in a year for Halak

I bet he is happy the blues choked out of the playoffs

good move for the islanders. know they need to sell the team and get a better owner.

Isn't the conclusion that bad defense = good Halak? He should be top 5 with the isles defense lol

Well, Scrivens was going to actually play games for the Oilers, even if he didn't re-sign. Not the best example but I get your point, there's no reason to think this was a bad move.

I was hoping they would try to go for Halak, I didn't see it working out for him with the Caps. Good move.

Like you can see not all goaltender play better when they have a great D infront of them. Some goalies prefer and perform better while receiving more shots.

I wouldn't be shocked if they still made a move on Reimer. Not sure Poulin or Nilsson should be backing up Halak, and don't think Halak should be playing 60+ games.

Nabokov returning as the backup is probably a foregone conclusion if Halak does sign with the Isles. Anders Nilsson is likely going to return to Europe since he wants a 1-way contract (he thinks he's done with the AHL) so he's out of the picture. Kevin Poulin's status is definitely up in the air now and he's likely done with the Isles too.

You're right, and probably what Garth saw as well, hence the preemptive move. Now don't d&@k around, show him the money.

Mid-rounds picks for impending UFAs is more common than a lot of people seem to think.

Good on the Islanders for being proactive on trying to fix their goaltending problems. With a lot of teams likely to continue switching goalies in the off-season it makes sense to get a jump start on the game.
