I think the big loss that Luongo suffered is that he is not a Maple Leaf.

Sorry Roberto we have steady Eddie in net .. Perhaps check back in a few years when you are a UFA and you might get your chance then to be a Leaf ..

I am sure he will be able to make it through the year on $3.2 mil

Although some people seem to have a personal grudge against Roberto (see the thread on the main board), this does not seem to be a loss so much as a tie.

Roberto is keeping his options open, perhaps with a view to scoring as a UFA in 2 years. I'm totally in favour of that.

If Luongo stays healthy and performs which seems likely then you have to look at what is earnings after five years is not this year alone. I would bet he will still make his twenty five or so over five and some what pick his team for three of those. He's not as hosed as people are being quick to think he is.

Look for Keenan to sign Luongo to a much more lucrative contract at the end of 2005-2006. After a full season under the new CBA and a more competitve teeam in Florida Luongo will realize that signing an offer of $25 million over 5 years is the right thing to do. He will stay in Florida long term.

Hope not

More free agents makes it more exciting, imo.

He didn't lose much, look at it this way. He could have got $25M over 5 years. I think we all know that is fair market value for him. He'll be a UFA soon and he'll walk...things may change but from what I've heard, he's pretty pissed. In the long run Florida will win or lose based soley on Luongo's decision.....he's got the upperhand

3.2 mill? When we trade for him, it'll take up less cap space.

The fact he turned down 25 million over 5 kind of indicates he wants out of Florida regardless of the money ... IMO.

he may still make the same money over the next 5 years. even though they offered him $25 mill over 5, he may have only been making 3 or 4 in the first year and then back loaded.

Is this Ottawa's answer to the Aki Berg poster?

The Leafs had their chance to get Luongo. They could've drafted him #4 overall in 1997. Of course, they had to trade that pick along with Kenny Jonsson so they could get Matt Schneider and Wendel Clark.
Just imagine if the Leafs didn't make that trade. Or the Nolan trade. Or the Leetch trade.
Also, has Luongo ever said anything about ever wanting to join the Leafs, or is that just wishful thinking?

I feel bad, because it's so damn hard to live on $3.2 million these days isn't it?, i'd never have to work again if i made that much money in a single year.

What do you want to bet people start saying "Eye-moh" instead of "In my humble opinion" in their everyday speech?
