We pretty much all knew who they were. There was a big discussion on our board way before the lottery.

Yup looks like Ekblad is #1 either way. You know... Otherwise Edmonton wouldn't be trying to move up for him.

I would do 1st + Shore + Upshall for 3rd + Eberle in a heartbeat.

Pirri isn't moving. He's shown his ability to be an offensive force on a team that is desperate. To trade him for an offensive player, on the grand scheme of things, would be a minimalist move.

Florida offers teams salary dump and offers teams picks. And they offer prospects.

They can't offer current position players. Edmonton doesn't make good trading partners, IMO. Well, at least not for Eberle or Yak, I mean. Florida is much better off targeting teams like Boston.

FYI - Trading the 3rd OVA and Yak to move up 2 spots is selling him low.

Yak for the #1 overall is the trade. Not Yak + 3rd overall.

And the panthers reject because they would rather shoot at their question mark than take a player who is still a question mark further down the line.

We know what would work, most of us have a clear head and don't get caught up in nonsense. What sort of packages involving players happened in the past for the first overall. Build from there.

We were pretty clear, thanks. Figured we'd be top 3-5 for awhile. Oh, this was just another lame "it's Florida" joke.

Then why do you want them? What's the point?? Package won't happen anyway.
I don't want them. That's the point. Do you have reading comprehension issues?

In my ideal situation they would sign Paul Stastny and David Moss...

Hall-RNH-Yakupov/Eberle
Perron-Stastny-Gagner
Upshall-Gordon-Moss
Hendricks-Lander/Shore-Arcobello

In the case of moving Eberle we would then have the capspace to throw big money at a Markov/Boyle/Niskanen type to give us at least one first pairing guy... Markov is preferable... he is a LD and on a high dollar short term contract would give Justin Schultz a responsible partner who can play 23 minutes a night

A. Markov-J. Schultz
M. Marincin/O. Klefbom-J. Petry (Marincin-Petry was a reliable pair many nights)
Ference-Ekblad/UFA (depends on if Ekblad is ready)
Marincin/Klefbom (I expect the two to push each other this year... Marincin being further ahead... Klefbom nice PB insurance if Marty gets tired along the way in his first full NHL season)

I'd love Edmonton to have Stastny too. Probably not going to happen but man it would be sweet. I'd rather GIVE away Gagner to free up cap space then trade Eberle. Eberle on line one and Yak takes Gagners spot on line two.

Kesler + 6 for Shore + 1

Florida then proceeds to trade Kesler to Pittsburgh for their prospect pool.

I don't think that's the case, his comments in the Horacheck presser support my stance, but anything is possible.

But we can get more than just a small piece. We can get a good roster player plus maybe more prospects/picks. This is the 1st overall.

Every GM with the #1 pick does their due diligence, but this has a different smell to it. I hope I'm wrong, because I want us to take Ekblad, but I don't think I am.

IF it were traded, most likely it would be for another pick in the top 10 + a piece that can help now (and longterm, therefore under contract for foreseeable future). That way Tallon would be improving now (while Luongo/Campbell are still good) but still adding to the longterm talent/depth.
Agreed.

8th overall + Kadri for the pick? Not sure if Panthers would be interested in that, but that would be a pretty high value offer from TO

That's a pretty good offer. I don't think Tallon is looking for another center though. Winger or D.

Myers + #39 + MIN 2014 2nd for #1

Sabres draft Ekblad and Reinhart. Or Reinhart and Bennett. (I would much rather have Ekblad and Reinhart)

Florida gets a 24 year old top pairing dman, a high 2nd and a late 2nd. Many Sabre fans hold Myers as untouchable but I would trade him for the right deal in a second. Panthers do this because they need an immediate impact. They haven't won a playoff series since 1996. Dmen take years to develop. Myers would come right in and make a mark quickly. They also get a high 2nd and another 2nd that will could be in the late 40s if the Wild lose this round. 2 top 50 picks and a top pairing former Calder winner.
