Sj/tor (blockbuster)

To Toronto:
Joe Thornton
Jason Demers

To San Jose:
Dion Phaneuf
Nazem Kadri

Reasoning:
Both guys have been getting heat for playing up a major role in their respective team's collapses in recent years and both have been criticized by the media for not living up to their leadership role. There's animosity in the Leafs' locker room (see Kessel/Phaneuf incident in that Philadelphia game) and Kessel isn't going anywhere. With the new management, they will be looking to make a bold move and change the club's identity. Jumbo Joe is getting there in age but he's still arguably the best playmaker in the league. Him and Kessel could be a treat to watch. Bozak impressed me this year but he moves where he belongs: the second line. The Sharks have a solid guy in Vlasic but with the decline of Dan Boyle, their defense has regressed. Adding like Phaneuf could patch that hole that Boyle has made.

Kadri has been involved in rumors for a while now, Demers helps the Leafs' defense going forward and is exactly the type of player they need (young PMD) and unlike the Gardiner's and Rielly's of this world, he's experienced (280 NHL games under his belt).

Thoughts?

Thornton is 35 and Demers is 26, you think the Leafs have ANY interest in getting older let alone by 8 years???

I'd rather have Phaneuf over Thornton (considering age) and Kadri over Demers (talent)

The Leafs don't need anymore PMD lol

The Maple Leafs do not need an aging center. That first can possibly lead to McDavid. No way the Maple Leafs trade that pick.

We can agree to disagree but one thing Joe still has is his playmaking. He'd be far and away better than any C you could get this offseason. And he'll have it for 3 more years easily given his playing style.

Now if you're looking for leadership from Joe, that's a different matter entirely. He's best suited to be traded to teams with an established leadership core where he could fit in without being The Man.

I'd love to add Thornton to the Leafs.

I didn't think the Leafs could possibly finish in the bottom 5 next season. If so, then 2016 1st or simplify it, like you said, 2014 1st.

If we trade the 2015 or 16 pick it's a lock it ends up very high and we give up a star .

We've traded future (before the season began) picks that have ended up becoming

Neidermayer
Luongo
Seguin
Hamilton

Absolutely possible, if anything I thought you were gunning for MacDavid or Eichel.

No, I wouldn't insult the Leafs like that.

I'm just exploring a futures trade for Joe - a 1st and decent fwd prospect.

Thornton has been elite for many years in his career. I agree on the leadership aspect.

The Maple Leafs do not have any leadership with multiple collapses. Besides, it is doubtful that Thornton would waive to be traded to Toronto in possibly the last three years of his career.

Thornton should be going to a contender for a change of scenary.

What's the full offer? Rielly would be interesting.

I've always liked Joe and was hoping it was him or Iggy getting there ring this year.

We're not a JT away from anything . We need a Jordan Staal type of C for Kessel who can create the offense for the line but needs a big strong defensively sound C with a decent enough skill set to take advantage of the opportunities he creates while covering for his flaws.

I don't believe we match up well unless you're looking to move Couture which i can't see you doing .

Off topic but i look at your team and can't believe you haven't had more success in the playoffs . What is it you think the teams missing ?

Anyone remember the Raptors signed Hakeem Olajuwon? That's what these Jumbo Joe to the Leafs rumors remind me of.

We'd take that and run but I doubt your fellow fans will agree with that.

Guys willing to go balls-to-the-wall in the playoffs? That's the easy, trite narrative.

Reality was our D is terribly lacking past Vlasic / Braun / Demers and that our fwds gave up on the N-S game with an aggressive forecheck that was effective in the 1st three games.

Our team needs to change it's leadership and culture starting with Joe, IMO.
