Babcock available?

http://www.thestar.com/sports/leafs/...k_feschuk.html

If he's available, we should definitely make a run at him. He's a huge McGill guy, so maybe he would love to come back to Montreal and coach the Habs?

Would be pleased.

Would be shocked.

Would not lose sleep thinking it could happen.

Awards:
You're talking about a team with a coach under contract going after a coach with a year left on his contract. I would say the chances of that actually happening are slim to none.

- One of the best coach out there.
- would probably work great with Bergevin (both come from teams that built from within)
- Could help this team very much
-But does he speak French, because for some reason in Montreal, French speaking is the most important thing.

oh and I just want to addm that I'm a french speaking guy, who cares more about winning than language.

Habs have the worst luck with coaches. Picking from a small pool but when one comes available we don't have an opening. Therrien era for another 3 years.

I say don't sign MT to an extention and see if Babcock becomes available next year. If so, I don't care how well MT has done, Babcock is the Crosby of coaches. He's a MUST sign. This is where management opens up their pocket books and doesn't have to worry about the salary cap. 5 year @ $2.5M per should get it done.

Having Babcock coack the next wave of young prospects who will be coming into the organization in the next 5 years will set us up for the next 10+ years. Good habits, good technical coach, good motivator and has respect of everyone in the NHL including the French media. If possible, this is a no brainer IMO.

If this is true, we are screwed. Say hello to the Leafs next coach and our latest nightmare. If that came to pass, with Bergevin supposedly being a good hockey mind (and not putting politics ahead of the team), he should get canned. Shanahan would jump on Babs in a second and the Leafs would become a very very very good team.

That said, it's premature.

edit: I didn't even read the link clearly linking the leafs. It's pretty obvious they'd want him. I also read the title of that article way too fast...

I don't see how it could happen next year, especially if we give the Bruins a run for their money.

With that being said, I'm sure Babcock would be well recieved here. He already has a history with Montreal and he's simply the best. He would probably learn a little bit of french and anyways one of the assistants could do the presser in french if need be.

This whole french thing is much more about the lazy, old school 'journalists' that don't understand english. I'm sure the fans would be OK with Babcock.

Only thing is... Subban would be benched!

Holland endorsed Babcock after they got eliminated no? I doubt Babcock goes anyways. The fact they just made the POs with their injuries and roster is incredible. Next year, with a healthier squad, and their very interesting rookies, they'll be back atop the conference.

I'm sure Detroit would love to resign him, but from the article, it appears Babcock is not ready to extend. So he could be wanting out of Detroit.

Would love to get a "real" coach, be it Babcock, Trotz, whoever. But I let go of that hope long long ago. All I want is for some moderately hopeful candidate who meets our requirements to come in and then magically morph into that that "real" coach status. Like Burns did. Um, and Julien. Er, Vigneault. Etc. Wait a second... :S

Not every day you see Vigneault being listed along with Julien and Burns in terms of suggesting similar level high quality. Jacques Martin and Michel Therrien were next in line I suppose.

The Leafs can easily offer twice what the Red Wings offer. Money talks. Plus the whole Shanahan/Detroit connection now.

I'm more surprised the Leafs aren't going after Trotz. He's a great coach.

So do i but the argument that the coach should speak french has merit based on the fact that he has to communicate with a french fan base and most of all, french media on a daily basis. The situation's different in montreal and there's no reason to hide our heads in the sand - speaking french is definitely a big plus if you wanna be a hockey coach in this city/province.

Don't kid yourselves, boys. If we ever landed him, he would outed as a secret moron with barely any coaching skills by the experts here at HF in a matter of mere months.

Yep. Doesn't matter who the coach is.... after a losing slump, many here will want him out of town.

You can be damn sure that he wouldn't have either Murray nor Bouillion in the lineup. Right there its a huge plus.

Get with the times. If an English team in England can hire a spanish only speaking coach, I don't see why Montreal can't have a translator for the media. I want my coach to communicate with the players, let the media figure out how to deal with it.

The media is so not important. The fan base barely communicate with a coach anyways...
