Joe Thornton

What does it take for the Leafs to land Thornton and finally get their #1 centre.

JVR-Thornton-Kessel

Joe's not gonna waive for any team unless its like Chicago, Boston, or LA most likely.

Zero chance of that. Boston doesn't want him back and Thornton has no love-lost for Boston.

Why? He'll be 35 in July. If Thornton couldn't take the Sharks deep, he won't make the Leafs contenders.

Toronto isn't "elite" but throw in a guy as good as Thornton, without giving up any of their big bones (Kessel, JVR, Phaneuf, Bernier, etc..) and they aren't a bad team at all.

You could be right, but if San Jose believes they need to retool, you gotta think Joe and Pat are gonna be asked to waive their NTC, and one of them will.

Pretty sure they'd take him if SJ offered him up for scraps and he was willing to waive. But that's not the point I was trying to make. Just saying I doubt they waive unless it's to an already strong team/cup contender.

No, they wouldn't.

The culture is completely different without Thornton. You will not find one Boston fan that wants him back, even for free. I don't want The Tin Man anywhere near this organization.

the only piece i would move for big joe would be phaneuf. im definitely not parting with any sort of quality asset for a 35 year old slow center. he definitely is a beast of a center but at 35 years old what can he do to help the leafs change their culture of not winning?

I could see him waive for Chicago or St. Louis. but Chicago cannot fit him under the cap and would only be interested should they get upset by the wild.
St. Louis could be intriguing.

Hard to imagine Thornton waiving for Toronto. Does anyone actually think he'd want to play in that market? He'd be scrutinized and put under the microscope after every loss. Plus, at this point in his career he'd want to play for an actual contender.

As for your first statement I totally agree that Toronto isn't as far from being a real contender as some say they are. As for your second statement its not gonna happen and the reason for it is both were just resigned to extensions this season so the likelyhood of either being traded is pretty nil.

As a Habs fan I thought of this...but I am pretty happy with our centre depth right now and we aren't even playing Galchenyuk at centre.

Don't think there is a trade to be made with the Habs

Would Shattenkirk + Berglund be close from the Blues?
