We have three, actually.

I can't tell if you're joking or being serious..

Why would they trade a guy as good as Simmonds without getting something valuable in return?

The bolded is just awesomely insane.

The Flyers have no desire to move him, so if Tor wants Simmonds, Rielly is the price. You may not want to pay it, that's fine, but that's the price. Frankly, I'm far from certain that I'd do that from Philly's end. We already have 3 prospect D - Morin, Hagg, & Gostisbehere - who have top pairing potential. The latter two recently made their AHL debuts. What we really truly need more than anything else is a legit number 1 dman, something none of these guys - not the Flyers prospects, nor Rielly - are at the moment, and it is completely possible, if not even likely, that none of these guys ever make it to that level.

Meanwhile, Rielly doesn't even belong in the same sentence as Giroux. MOD

Yep Rielly would have to be the one coming back. Simmer is just what the leafs need but he would not come cheap.

Yes...which Flyers fans quickly balked at because they really don't want to trade Simmonds - meaning the only piece they'd accept back from the leafs if you put a gun to their head is Rielly.

We have one to three D with potential similar to Rielly at this point. They just weren't in the NHL this season.

Just for the record.

Leafs fans suffer from short-term memory. Lupul is Toronto's best secondary scorer and a player you covet when the playoffs come around.
So he's useful to Toronto one season in every 10?

Vinny is our 4th best center. I don't think he would be 4th best in Toronto.

My thoughts exactly. We actually do need a winger like Simmonds, but with limited trade assets and a salary cap, i dont think it makes sense to trade even more assets to upgrade the wing.

Our top priority should be solidifying the Centre position, even if it means getting younger. We cant win with our current group of centres and dont have any obvious answers coming up the pipeline either. Trading multiple valuable assets for Simmonds probably makes it even less likely that we improve the Centre position down the line.

Rielly is the future of our blueline and it'll take a hell of a lot more than Simmonds, a PP specialist and glorified 2nd liner.

OP's offer is more than fair value but Leafs decline as it's poor asset management. A winger doesn't fill the need of a centre, or a top pairing defenseman, so why ship off our best bargaining chips for anything other. Giving up on Gardiner is asking for trouble, his potential and skill are too high to risk losing. If tamed, he will be a staple on the top pairing for years to come.
Honestly, simmonds is a first line talent, but we already have a better 1st line RW, which is the reason he is on the 2nd

When assessing a players trade value people have to realize what that players status is in regards to his team. Simmonds is a great player who is still young with room for improvements in almost every area including consistency. He's also on an outstanding contract and brings a hell of a lot more other than mere statistics.

The flyers have, nor should they have, no desire or need to trade Simmonds. Thus, in order to get him out of philadelphia, it would take a pretty sizable overpayment from a club who desperately needs what he brings and has an excess of what the flyers need. If Toronto wanted Simmonds, they'd likely have to part with Reilly. Is that fair value? No probably not. Reilly has a higher ceiling and the potential to be a top pairing defenseman. However, it's likely what it would take for the flyers to move a young player on a fantastic contract that they have no need to move.

That is just ludicrous.
Don't worry, some of my fellow Leafs fans can look far into the future and foresee what's going to happen. Just trust us

That's funny. You want a premiere YOUNG power forward you better include a young premiere defenseman
