Weaver is like a smaller version of Hal Gill.

We lost 7-2 and Weaver ends the game with +1? What the hell?

Two PPG against in the 3rd period, and he was on for Eller's shorty, so...

Haha!! great observation!!

And I think he played 18min, no?!! (even more incredible!).

7 goals, but Weaver at +1.

Time to give Weaver 21min+...??

Weaver might be better at stopping Rangers' speed VS Emelin and Markov, unless...Emelin and Markov are going to adapt and be more ready (cannot cheat since they're too slow).

Rotate all the lefties (Markov, Emelin, etc) with Weaver, so Weaver can get 21min/game.

The Weaver File (Offseason Version)

As I see it this offseason the Habs have to decide what they want to do about our UFA Weaver, sign or don't:

Pros: Weaver's last contract was $1.1m, signing should be relatively cheap, he blocks shots and plays PK, is a warrior, right side defenceman.

Cons: Weaver will be 37, is 5'9" and 180lbs, possibly that 'warrior' style can't be sustained, is not a great crease-clearer or puck-mover.

It goes against what I see on this board but I would NOT sign Weaver to a new contract mainly because we are the league's smallest team, adding a small and aging journeyman is not going to change that. Instead we should slot a bigger guy onto our bottom pairing. Pateryn or UFA or trade. Thoughts?

If you can sign him cheap, do it. And then pass on boullion and Murray. Let Tinordi/Beaulieu play with the big club and let pateryn have a cup of coffee next year. With those three the size thing is less of an issue, and weaver is a RH, solid vet for the third pairing

Weaver is a perfect signing he would accept a lesser role 7-8 with this club.
We may have as many as 3 Rookie D next year depending on how things pan out.
How could you not sign him? Watch some footage of him talking with Bollie pre game 6 vs Boston.
Invaluable asset.

Weaver is a much better veteran signing than Bouillon or Murray who should both be gone.

plus he plays the right side which they need.

i would take him back.

I see your point but some of us thought Bouillon would be a good 7th defenceman, a mentor for youngsters who would spend most games up in the pressbox. Look what happened instead, he played most regular season and half the playoff games while our kids stayed in Hamilton. I think the takeaway is that MT prefers vets if he has them no matter how old they are! Anyway I really wonder why some think adding another yet very small player is a good choice for the Habs going forward.

I view him like I view Gorges in that he's got a good heart and he blocks shots but we need to upgrade.

You went to battle for us and did alright. Gave everything you had for a team you barely knew.

I wish you well with your new team.

I want him back. Some might have forgotten how fragile the bottom pairing was before Weaver arrived, he definitely stabilized it by being a solid bottom pairing guy. Even if it just as a #7, I think Weaver is great to have on board.

That is a coaching issue not a depth D issue...

But knowing our coach, it's important to keep certain things out of his reach.

Definitely a keeper. A great bottom pairing guy, and provides depth in case Tinordi and Beaulieu have sudden growth spurts that'd warrant them more ice time.

As for Bouillon and Murray, it's time to turn the page.

Agreed.

I do hope Bouillon stays with the organization as a non-player, I think he would be a great hire in player development. He had to work hard to get to where he is, and I would like his desire in this organization for many years to come if he is interested.

I do think Bouillon would be a wonderful players' coach if he were to stay within the organization. But as a hockey player, as much as I love the guy, we have to move on.
