I see.. your argument is that if the Leafs lose their starting goaltender for a long period of time, that they're going to have a hard time making the playoffs. Way to go out on a limb there. While we're being ballsy, I'll state the same for New Jersey, or.. in fact, most teams in the NHL.
Disagree. There are many teams in the NHL that can handle losing their starting goaltender for a "length of time" and weather the storm, be it through a strong forward crop, suffocating defense, or stellar backup goaltending. The Leafs are not one of those teams.

at some point, and its coming soon at his age, eddie is going to drop off significantly. better to have a little foresight and see it coming rather then wait until he embarresses himself and costs the team.

Eddie will be the goealie for the next 2 years and will be a very fine. Tellqvist, Rask, Pogge, Racine, Ford and Aubin can decide amongst themselves who will be the starter in 2007-2008. Now that's foresight!
A full season off for Belfour does not by any means mean he is going to be as good or better then he was for us the last season we played. He is older and he has been away from the game some guys Delcine gradually but some just fall off the radar.. Things could get rough this season for us but either way I don't mind seeing a loto pick next year if we bomb.. I won't get to watch any of the games any ways....... Especially since ESPN lost out on the NHL contract... I definitely wont get to chance out and see a leaf game ..... sobbbbbb!!!!!

I have to agree with Recidivist on this one... Goaltending is our strong point in the prospect department.... Same as how a few years ago it was the same with our defense... I think we are finally rounding out our prospect depth...

While I love to be agreed with, I think in this case I might not have been as clear as my usual pristine prose, and I think you actually disagree with me, which of course is disheartening.
Actually I was not focusing on prospects but on the upcoming season where I don't think our situation is very secure relying upon a brilliant but 40 y.o. goalie, an unproven backup (either Racine or Telly).
Prospects are just that, prospective players. Some pan out, others are flashes in the pan, some end up in the garbage pan.

Unlike you, I am unable to predict the future with such assurance and a fair reading of the facts would require some reasonable doubt that Belfour at 40 will be fine.
Lord, I hope all the "don't worry, be happy" brigade are correct in their reasonable opinions and that I am wrong in my reasonable doubt.
Nothing would make me happier than a loud chorus of "told ya so's" aimed at my frosty head.
