What Will The New Criticism Be When Ovechkin Scores 60+ Goals Next Year?

What will the new criticism be be, or will the same absurd criticisms still be thrown around?

Are the ones who dislike him going to go back to their old ways of saying he doesn't had a strong division, or will they continue to perpetrate the claims of him being a horrible defensive forward, even though it's much easier to mask a forwards defensive shortcomings than it is to magically turn a player into a 50+ goal scorer?

Can you guarantee he will score that many? Need to know for my hockey pool next year.

The same exact criticisms he's faced his entire career. The ones that don't go away when you keep doing the exact same things that got you criticized in the first place.

Oh, you mean how when people always compare(d) him to Crosby and said he's less valuable because he doesn't have the same defensive responsibilities, yet then bash him for his lack of a defensive game?.

He is. Very very bad defensive player, idk how you can dispute that. I love Ovi but its very clear. If he actually scored 60 goals it would be different but he hasnt for years

Right because wingers aren't supposed to play defense at all , he doesn't even do basic winger responsibilities. At least he used to be dynamic enough to make up for that, now he just sits there and waits for someone to feed him, could only image what his goal totals would look like if Backstrom wasn't controlling the PP.

if Barry Trotz takes over the Caps, it will be good if he scores 40

Yes, and he was one of the leading gpg leaders in NHL history during the playoffs until recently. Did you have a point?

Did you see the goal he scored in worlds today? Completely lazy play, happened to be in the wrong place at the right time. Floats around in the neutral zone, gets lucky and picks up the puck off a bad breakout, and lazily backhands it in.

It's going to be vintage Hart Trophy GOATvechkin next season. Just wait until he has a competent coach, a competent GM, and some competent teammates. He will lead his team to the playoffs and possibly another Hart Trophy for the legend.

Same thing he's always been criticized for.

His body of work at the other end of the ice.

The part where those same people say he can't be in the conversation with other elite centers because he doesn't have those same defensive responsibilities?

It's time for many of you to actually pick a stance and stop being hypocritical and picking and choosing when a players defensive game matters.

pretty obvious example of OV-perception-stereotype.

1."idk how you can dispute that.". Why the puck is he good defensively on any other team but the Caps, i.e. Dynamo Moscow and the NT? Give the man a coach with an idea how to use him and without stubborn NA stereotypes in coaching and he's a different player.

3."If he actually scored 60 goals it would be different but he hasnt for years". I mean what? Scoring 50+ every year isn't enough? It's obvious that if he scored 60 you'd probably claim he hasn't scored 70 to back up critisizm.

People will still criticize him because he doesn't play a 2 way game. Fact is Ovechkin is offense only and people should realize that.

Ovechkin's only scored 60+ once in his career, and that was vintage Ovie and scoring was slighter higher overall with more PPs. What makes you think that he's going to score 60+ next year?

The thread of the title is implying that Ovechkin will specifically score 60+ next year, so it's reasonable for him to address this issue.

1 - This is gonna be an amazing bump when he doesn't some close to 60 next year.

2 - No one is criticizing his goal scoring ability, so I'm not sure how scoring more goals is gonna change what he's criticized for.

That was pretty easy, huh? Surprised OP couldn't come up with the answer on their own. Nothing has really changed.
