How about we ship out our god-awful coach, joke of a goaltender, and washed up vets before looking to trade generational talents?

And if they traded Malkin and won the cup the following season, and made several ECF/Cup appearances over the next 5+ years?

Remember when Malkin in 2009 when he had bottom 6 grinders as wingers? It forced himto shoot more.

Just do:
-Kunitz-Crosby-Neal
-Malkin with whoever
-Trade Letang for forward depth
-Re-Sign Niskanen
-Trade Fleury
-Fire Blysma and Shero
-Trade Scuderi for a bag of pucks

I see it from your side, I hated it when Kariya (my favourite player as a kid) left the Ducks, but a cup made it all right pretty quick.

Don't get me wrong... there's lots I'd do before moving Malkin, as he's not the issue... I just don't put him on the immediate "untouchable" list. Crosby is untouchable due to who he is (face of Pittsburgh/NHL/best player in the game), but I'd move Malkin in the right deal. And seeing how Pittsburgh doesn't have to move him, they either hold out for a kings ransom+ or keep him.

To give an example of said deal... a Toronto fan offered Kessel, Bozak, JVR and the 8th pick (and yes it does work cap wise - barely). I'd probably do that. Then work on upgrading that #2C position.

Yeah, I would still be pissed.

He has done nothing wrong. He doesn't deserve to be punished. Fan card would be left at the table.

I think it's awful.

They just declined Kessel, Gardiner, Kadri and 8th overall lol Not sure this package even gets you Kessel.

Other than Stemp, none of those players are below average for their role. And even Stemp as a player that can (and has been) moving up/down the lineup depending on who's where is fine. Bennett, Sutter and Goc are all solid 3rd line players. Sure Bennett hasn't produced a ton, but as a rookie and what he's doing while on the ice, he's fine on the 3rd line.

Malkin is not the "Core" player that needs to be moved. Those player would be Letang and MAF..

Also Bylsma needs to GTFO

So trading out an asset to make the team better means that player is being punished... gotcha.

This is a business. Players are assets. While having the best assets is nice... one also needs to have the right assets to win. Look I'm not saying trade Malkin, as I think we can afford to surround him and Crosby with talent - if it's done smartly. I'm just saying don't get so emotional about it. I want Pittsburgh to win... and if that means shipping out a fan favorite to do so... then while that would suck, it would suck less then keeping said player and never winning.

Malkin isn't the problem, I think ownership and Shero realize that moving out Malkin would be disastrous. Disco, Fleury, Letang and Scuderi need to go before Malkin is even a consideration for a trade.

How are they planning on making Geno waiving his nmc?
If he leaves he probably is going home, to the reigning Gagarin cup champs.

Kunitz is a worthless onedimensional lazy sniper. He doesn't belong in a team that's wants to win the cup.

I wouldn't trade my package for your package. Gardiner and 8th overall are mediocre pieces. Teams don't want Kadri. Kessel is the only top piece you offer. NYI 1st and 2nd overall are both premier trading chips.

Trading Malkin would be dumb. The Pens have 3-4 ELC D-Men ready to jump in in the next 2 seasons (if not sooner) so don't re-sign Orpik, move Scuderi, and think about moving Dupuis. That leaves a ton of cap space.

Move Letang, keep Niskanen

Move MAF, sign a cheaper goalie (like Hiller).

Fire Blysma, hire Trotz (if you can)

DON'T trade Malkin

The Penguins don't need to do any major moves besides the obvious one. With Crosby, Malkin, Neal, Dupuis, Kunitz, and Letang locked-up long-term all they need to do is find a solid goalie and fill out the rest of the roster, which shouldn't be difficult when after Crosby, Malkin, and Letang, the rest of their core will look like it came in at discounted rates.

People that don't believe trading Malkin could make the Penguins a better team are delusional.
