Yeah sorry man, I'd rather get something for him now than either let him walk or sign him to an inordinate amount of money because you like him

I agree, trading him and getting something rather than letting him walk at the end of the year seems to be the most logical move, especially considering we are tanking again.

In most situations I would probably agree with you (picks and prospects tend to be overvalued around here), but the Sixers don't have a need for a proven player, especially one that in all likelihood is not going to re-sign here at the end of his deal. The Sixers are in re-build mode. Thad isn't old by any means, but when this team is ready to actually make a run for it, they will have all the cap space in the world to land a free agent better than Thad Young. This year, Thad Young is useless. Even if the pick or player they get for him sucks and never plays in the NBA, at least they aren't paying a guy to be a somewhat above average player on a terrible team.

Ok Paul ...

Anyway, I like Thad because he is a glue guy and although he is a good soldier and still needed on the team for his scoring and versatility, unfortunately he is a bit of a luxury based on what is going to be around him. Might as well leverage him into more assets at the risk of losing him for nothing..

That's exactly the point! None of us dislike Thad as a player but he's really pointless on this team and is not gonna stay.

Even as a biased Thad fan, I'm not opposed to trading him, but Bennett stinks.

I think the final trade might look something like this if it happens though:

CLE get: Love
MIN get: Wiggins, Thad, either Waiters or some throw in like John Lucas, Matthew Dellavedova or Erik Murphy
PHI get: Bennett, JJ Barea, 1st from CLE

Any possibility of us getting Waiters in this deal?

Unlike Panaccio..I think Gonzalez is a decent columnist for the Sixers...

Quote:
Why NBA lottery reform is punitive garbage

This is about the Sixers. You know it. The Sixers know it. The rest of the league knows it. Sam Hinkie manipulated the rules to his potential benefit, which apparently made some other people around the league none too pleased. One league executive told me he thinks the new rules will be implemented this year, and that it’s a direct attempt to prevent the Sixers from moving forward with Tank 2.0.

“It’s absolutely about them,” the exec said. “They did this to themselves, but it affects the rest of the league.”

Some people are happy about this. While we were sitting around at training camp the other day, one media member -– part of the staunch anti-Hinkie faction –- said the changes were necessary. Like so many of the breathless how can the Sixers do this?/won’t someone think of the children crowd, he droned on and on about how tanking –- or, if you prefer, rebuilding -- damages “the integrity of the league.” It was such a hollow hot take that it almost floated away. Even he couldn’t pin it down. (Perhaps the Spurs' title is counterfeit because the Sixers took advantage of the league’s lottery-rule incentives better than any organization in recent memory?)

His general gist seemed to be two-fold: that you should always try to win, because competition and sports. And it’s not fair for the Sixers to tank/rebuild because then they don’t sell tickets and instead debit from the league revenue sharing system rather than contributing to it.

It’s nonsense. Both points.

We’ll take them in order.

Don't worry, he's a killer on the court. Shaq and Howard are wacky characters too.

I don't think Cleveland gives up Wiggins, Bennett, Waiters, and a 1st for Love. I'd be happy with it though.

We'll have to agree to disagree there, I find Gonzalez to be completely unbearable both in print and on TV.

I haven't really followed him too closely to form a strong opinion to be honest. However, he seems fairly logical ..at least in print. I've seen him sparingly on TV.

Wasn't he the guy who accused Raul Ibanez of being on steroids during his torrid pace in 09 or 2010? I can't remember but I thought it was a writer named Gonzalez.

I love it. I am not a big BBall fan at all, but Embid is getting me psyched. He's a character. I just hope he plays as well as he tweets!

Love for Wiggins, Bennett, and a 2015 1st.

The Minnesota Timberwolves have reached an agreement in principle to send All-Star forward Kevin Love to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Andrew Wiggins, Anthony Bennett and a protected 2015 first-round draft pick, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Cleveland is making the deal with Minnesota with a firm agreement Love will opt out of his contract in 2015 and re-sign with the Cavaliers on a five-year, $120 million-plus contract extension, league sources told Yahoo Sports. ...

... The precise deal terms have been agreed upon for weeks, but the teams and Love plan to stay silent about the particulars until the trade is announced in 16 days, sources told Yahoo Sports.
Well, I wonder what 1st rounder it is?

So presuming the Sixers get Bennett...what's his upside? Haven't really paid much attention to him...kind of obvious why.

Right now it just seems we are getting something for something...as opposed to nothing for something (Thad).

Not huge upside, but a lot better than he showed last year. Not tall but a big body with long arms. His days as a 3 are pretty much over, but he can knock down an occasional jumper. If you can get the previous year's #1 pick for one year of Thad, you do it. I'm still skeptical that he comes here though.

Correct me if i'm wrong, don't the salaries have to match up? The NBA trades never made much sense to me...

If both teams are near the cap, yes. The Sixers aren't but they would probably have to take back Martin or Barrea if they did make the trade for Bennett.
