Faster team: Habs or Rangers?

Serious question: Who is a faster team, the Habs or the Rangers?

I would say at forward it's almost equal with an edge to the Rangers it's more the D for the Rangers that are much more mobile

Their defensemen are faster than ours (McDonagh, Staal). Their forwards are faster too (Hagelin, St.Louis, Kreider, Stephan).

In conclusion, the Rangers are faster.

Rangers seem faster but it's mostly because of Kreider/Hagelin. The rest of their team isn't as fast as the Habs but those two blow past all our defensemen except Subban and Beaulieu.

Rangers, not really close either I'd say.

We've always carried that fast team reputation, but I've never quite seen it. I think we're pretty average in that regard, to be honest.

Rangers, not close. It's a bit of an urban myth even that the Habs are fast anymore.

No one on our team comes close to Kreider and Hagelin, momentum or not.

Except maybe Bournival, for the 5 minutes a game he plays.

Come on... game 1, habs were asleep... tonight, heavy legs... in game 2, the habs absolutely dominated the Rangers speed wise.

If habs are in it... no team can match them... sadly, they're very up and down...

The question who has the faster team, not the faster top 2 players

I'm just making the point the biggest difference in speed between the two teams is confidence and momentum, not players.

Fair enough.

The way I'd assess how fast a team is is by how one's team defense is able to repel the opposing team's offense and vice-versa. The Rangers speed give a lot of problems to 3 of our 4 top 4 defensemen, which are all rather slow and clumsy, while the Rangers' defense has no problem at all containing our offense with a very very mobile top 3 of McDonagh - Staal - Girardi. Basically, their speed gives us more trouble than our's give them.

Cheers, I've been impressed with the R's speed, and as pointed out Habs have the "speedy" label so it's interesting to see that many others think the R's are faster.

True that kreider and Hag raise the rags' speediness, those two play big minutes.

Habs speed is a myth that has been used over and over to cover for our lack of size.

So far, the rangers, because banking the puck off the glass 3000 times/game does not do wonders for looking speedy.

Beaulieu is faster than most (to be determine between him and PK).
Tinordi is faster than Gorges, Weaver, Emelin and Murray (that was an easy one).
Next year will be a year of transition where two young d-men will be in our team.
Beaulieu is one of them.
Pick your choice between Pateryn, Tinordi and Nygren.

Seems to me that Murray and Bouillon were hired to give more time to Beaulieu and Tinordi to get ice time in AHL.
Weaver will be replaced by Nygren and Pateryn.

habs are an extremely quick and fast team too...the issue has been on D not up front..but beaulieu and Subban have great wheels.

pacioretty, beaulieu, gallagher (quick), bournival, Eller, weise, plekanecs, bourque, gion (quick), galchenyuk - all extremely good skaters

Beaulieu, Tinordi, Nygren and Pateryn are pretty good.

Among them Pateryn may be the slowest one.
But he does have a good positional game.

We do have d-men in the pipeline that will be good.
