HF's Team Board Mock Draft

Hey everybody. There's always variations of these every year on this site. The idea is to try to reach a consensus for who each team might pick would the fans of that team be in control.

We had one going about a month ago but unfortunately the user stopped polling teams. Rather than continuing his, I'm starting another mock draft, going team to team. Opinions may have changed from then till now anyway.

We have roughly 32 days left until the draft, which means there will only be 24 hours to select each player

Panther fans, you have 1st pick. Looking around, I can see this might be an easy pick here...

The other poll is who do you think the Panthers will take, not who do we as fans want, so the results may be different. Still Ekblad for me, though.

Ekblad.

You might upset some people with not having Ehlers on your list!

In no world would Ehlers go #1. Then again, Nylander wouldn't either.

Defense men are never the sexy pick, but Ekblad, he's something we need, and he's the best in the draft.

Ekblad. Then send him back to junior.

Bennett. The other day I saw a article by a Vancouver blog showing how terrible they were at drafting, so they decide to redo their the draft. They picked the available CHL forward that scored the most point at 17 years old. They improved their draft quite a lot. Here's what the first round selection of the Panthers would have been:

2006: Frolik --> Claude Giroux
2007: Ellerby --> Angelo Esposito (it's not a perfect system)
2008: Markstrom* --> Mitch Wahl (ECHL player)
2009: Kulikov --> Reilly Smith
2010: Gudbranson --> Jeff Skinner
2010: Bjugstad --> Brendan Gallagher
2010: Howden --> Tyler Toffoli
2011: Huberdeau --> Huberdeau

It's not a perfect method but it's an interesting one. Here's the link to the article: http://canucksarmy.com/2014/5/20/we-...outing-problem
I did not followed their ruled 4.

Bennett is my second choice.

Glad we took Bjugstad instead of Gallagher.

2006 obviously sticks out the most. But then it probably does for most teams.

Outside of Gudbranson and Frolik, I would pick all our guys again.

You'd take Howden over Toffoli?

Knowing we also have Trochek too, easy. Howden's speed is not common he needs a bit more time to refine his skills but yeah I would make that pick.

Fair enough. It just feels like Howden's been in the AHL forever and hasn't really proven anything during his call-ups, although I was starting to like what I saw towards the end of last season.

We have to go Ekblad if we're picking #1.

He looked pretty decent recently. I still think another year of AHL for him would be best. Same with Trocheck.

As Ekblad has a sizeable lead over the next prospect (30 votes), at this point (3 hrs left) I'll move to the next pick. Continue voting if you haven't yet as it will give us more accurate numbers for your board.

Thanks to everybody for your participation! I'll post a link to the completed draft once we've gone through all 30 picks

I'm probably in the minority but yes. Howden will be that defensive forward that matches up and kills offensive pressure from the other team. His combination of size, speed and defensive ability is not all that common. No doubt that Toffoli is the better offensive player though.

Because he's the top prospect in this years draft. It doesn't matter how you feel about everyone else, you go with the consensus. Select the the prospect with the most potential.

With that logic we should have drafted Jones last year, or the Av's should have selected Jones, but they did not. And they probably ended up with the best player. So consensus are not always to be folllowed.

can score a bunch of goals, nasty speed, good size, good defensively

I don't think Jones was the consensus number one last year. If I recall he and MacKinnon were back an forth the whole time.

I'm sure Howden will be decent, but there are players drafted after whom I would prefer.

well, seeing as its nearly 4 drafts ago, obviously some will be better than their pick position

MacKinnon was the consensus #1 by the draft.
