He has had a fantastic season overall. Too bad we have to rely on him so much... having so much room to improve elsewhere is what exaggerates his shortcomings. He's fine. He'll be fine for a few more years too.
He's a great #2 D. He's no longer the #1 he used to but he's still being played like one due to the luxury of having Subban split the time. A lot of Habs success come from having both Markov and Subban playing ~25 min/game. No doubt he should be re-signed IMO. His PP time should be lowered though as his hands aren't as quick as it used to make passes and be eased to Beaulieu.
I think he can be good for another 2-3 seasons, hopefully he's re-signed. I'd like to see:
with either Nygren/Tinordi/Pateryn as #7 (if any make it) or another veteran type D.
Markov is literally out of gas. Been way over used.
Yeah, folks have to remember he has been used as the #1 guy for half the season, and co-#1 for the other half. We all think/know Subban is better, but the icetime hasn't gone that way, and we don't have others to pick up the slack. Markov is just fine and it's really no wonder if he's running out of gas. It's amazing it didn't happen much much sooner, really.
