Starting my First League Tomorrow! Need Advice!

Hey guys,

need some serious advice. I'm playing in my first league tomorrow. First time playing hockey in about 13 years.

I'm going to register today and get placed on team for tomorrow.

Amazingly I haven't decided whether to play Goalie or Forward.Which position should I pick?

Background:

-Skating is a challenge
-Not flexible
-Big body (I would be able to cover a lot of net)
-Good wrist shot
-Able to pass the puck

Well, what's your background with goalie? Poor skating and flexibility seem like two sure strikes against playing goalie. To be on the safe side, I would say forward.

I played goalie before when i was like 13. I have great reflexes, timing, and anticipation. Just not entirely flexible and able to stay explosive on my skates in the crease. I was really good back then but i think i was physically superior to other kids so maybe that's why i looked so good. Now not so much.

Depends where your passion lies. Personally, I'm always offensively-minded and enjoy scoring so couldn't imagine myself being a goaltender, and prefer not to play defense if possible.

don't think that just because you're not a great skater that goalie is the position for you. most of the goalies I know are actually REALLY good skaters. playing goalie isn't just standing there. there's more complicated skate moves than you probably realize. also lack of flexibility just seems like an injury waiting to happen at teh goalie position.
stick to forward for now. I know plenty of goalies that switched "mid-career".

Yup I went with forward. This was the first time skating in 13 years. I was a mess in that department but passing and knowing where to be on the floor wasn't too difficult. I can't even skate backwards right now
