The one thing that would hurt is that he is a huge supporter of Nathan Beaulieu.

Really? And what does Daigneault think of Nate?

No clue. I know Gallant is a supporter of Beaulieu though. Coached him in Saint-John and absolutely loved him there.

Maybe we can move Beaulieu to where Gallant gets a job for a premium. I'm just not seeing in him what a large portion of you do.

He just needs more time. That's all. I like how Bergevin has taken the Detroit approach, where you only bring in prospects once they are over-ripened rather than under-developed (this, of course, barring any superstar-level talent like a Galchenyuk).

I won't write off a kid that played a handful of playoff games at elite level talent and struggled. He was good against Boston, not so much against New York. Maybe this experience will be what he needed to push himself harder in the off-season.

The fact that N8thegr8 gives zero effort in Hamilton stinks of lack of character though. Game 6 vs the Rangers is how Beaulieu played in the AHL all year. I was shocked he got called up even once over Pateryn.

They needed a game-breaker on the blue-line, someone that can log PP minutes and can move the puck. Pateryn is maybe one of those three. He's not what the Habs needed, unless they would be willing to play more than one rookie at a time and ice Bouillon for good.

Be honest, virtually everyone in Hamilton stunk.

Hopefully for him that's not the guy running our PP, cause it's the worse I've seen in decades. The guys can't even enter the other teams' zone.

We have had the same issues on PP forever...
Inability to consistently win faceoffs inability to open up a lane to carry the zone inability to win a dump in overload. We haven't had that great puck handler since Kovalev who could back D off and gain the zone.

Beaulieu looks like a carbon copy of Gardiner. And I mean that in a good way.

He has the offensive flair and already an all-star caliber skating ability. After some polishing, he should be a great, great top 4, possibly top 2 defenseman.

How do you view Beaulieu's skillset?

At his best a 17-18 minute defenseman with first unit PP duties. Comparable to John-Michael Liles or less gritty Wisniewski.

I can think of 2 seasons in the past 5 years where the PP was worse....

Relative to the personnel on hand? No, you can't.

No, I am not bringing relativity into this. That's a whole other can of worms that i don't intend getting into.

08/09 PP was frustrating but they were able to salvage it a bit. That one is debatable, I admit.

No debating 2011/2012 PP though.

Ah, well in strict pp% there's really no debate then.

Much better skater than both of those guys combined.

Gallant definitely got it.

However it's funny seeing Jacques Martin being Bylsma assistant coach.. irony.

I am a big fan of Beaulieau and wanted him to be a Hab since prior to the draft.

I still believe he's going to be a great d-man for us, and is ready to expand is role in to every day NHL life.

Beaulieau was a HUGE contributor on that. Relative CHL Dynasty Sea Dogs that Gallant coached.

IMHO he is a very underrated d-man , and I love the fact that his junior coach is snagged up to be assistant for us. That is a huge + as they got juniors holy grail by trusting each other...

I gotta say a full season of Gallant on the bench with Nate would do wonders for a development.
