Strategic Coaching Moves that led to the Cup

What are some examples of NHL coaches making strategic adjustments or decisions during the course of a Cup run, that led their respective teams to clinch the Cup?

Yep, and moving Staal to the point on the PP that same playoff. They clipped along at nearly 25% on the powerplay with him there alongside Hedican.

Chicago (the first time) has been the only other team within 4% of their mark, though the rate that LA is clipping along at could threaten the Canes rate if they make the Cup Finals.

I am pretty certain that after Gretzky carved up the Habs in Game 1 of the 1993 SCF, they matched up Carbonneau against him from that point on (it was actually Carbo's request) and the Habs won 4 straight.

What about after getting Red Kelly from Detroit, Punch Imlach moved him to centre from defence? Didn't this make an effective combo with Frank Mahovlich on wing and helped the Leafs win all of those Cups in the 1960s?

Then pulling him for Gerber. Then going back to Ward.

I don't think Buffalo scored after a goalie switch that series.

Al Arbour pulling Billy Smith for Rollie Melanson in Game 5 of the 1982 Patrick Division Semifinals (vs. Pittsburgh) to get an extended timeout.

Al MacNeil starting a 6 game NHL rookie over a potential HOF veteran against the Bruins in 1971.

ask any bruins fans about Sather keeping Petr Klima on the bench for the game and overtime--he gave him only one shift and Klima made it count. Different versions have why Sather did it--but Klima was seething and put it all out on is one shift

Down 3-1 to the Capitals in 1992, the Pens switched to a more passive forecheck, allowing them not to get beat with speed through the NZ and have proper puck support in critical areas that allowed their transition game to flourish. The Pens upended the Caps and won the Stanley Cup.

Bowman dressing goons in a pre-season game against Philly in 1975. They later met in the Finals of 76 with the Broad Street Bullies playing hockey.

Also it didn't help win a cup but it helped win a round against the heavily favored Penguins. Vigneault put Zarley Zalapski up front to shadow Jagr and the Habs won in 6 in 97-98. Jagr still had 9 points but couldn't bring his team to the next round. Montreal shut out Pittsburgh 3-0 in the final game.

They did that about a couple months into the 2007-08 season when Denis Savard was the coach.
