Benning Won’t Rule Out Upgrade in Goal

http://nhltraderumors.co/2014/05/can...grade-in-goal/

Quote:
Sportsnet’s Luke Fox reports that newly-appointed Canucks GM Jim Benning is open to an upgrade in goal.

Both Eddie Lack and Jacob Markstrom, the Canucks two goalies at present, both posted save percentages below league average last season.
Imagine Bryzgalov in Vancouver?

If we spend a stupid amount on goal instead of adding forwards, I am going to be very annoyed.

I see a stupid offer to Miller. Who else out West would show any interest?

Fleury, Sutter and a 1st for Kesler

But seriously, I think they should get a pending UFA G to ease Lack into the starter role. Run with a 1A/1B, then give it full time to Lack. Not break the bank to get one, just sign Hiller or someone to a 1 year deal.

If that happens, I'm becoming a Pittsburgh fan.

Hiller, at the right price, may be worth looking into. I just rather us be aggressive and go after Cammalleri, Grabovski, Iginla and etc.

I'm wondering who will be the bidders for Miller. He'd reportedly be interested in Anaheim, but I can't see them making a big commitment with Gibson in the wings.

I think they need to have an upgrade in goal. Markstrom hasn't proved anything and Lack stunk after Luongo got traded.

They don't need a big name though.

Would Vancouver swap either Lack or Markstrom for Niemi?

Could try their luck with Marty B for a year or two, solid stopgap until one of the kids proves they are ready

I doubt it; but I doubt even more that a Sharks fan would do this (Unless I have their assessment all wrong)

A lot of people feel that Stalock needs to grab more responsibility and it may be difficult with the coaching staff they have to do that with Niemi here. So theoretically, if they move Niemi and get someone that is more a 1B or similar status, it would give Stalock a better chance to take over the spot w/o giving him the full load off the hop.

What I think is coming now that all the Cali teams have expressed no desire in Miller

I think it would be foolish to not at least see what Lack/Markstrom can do for the first quarter of the season. You can't give up Markstrom because you feel hes not good enough without being given a chance. That would be horrible asset management.

It's not his job to justify the moves of the last GM...there's a reason that guy is gone.

He has been dealt a tough hand...with both Lou and Schneider last year, and now neither...and talking about an upgrade in goal...
Nucks fans can't be happy...

Miller or Hiller are probably the best options via UFA

Given that it seems Anaheim and San Jose say they don't have interest in Miller, Vancouver might be an attractive option for his wife.

It does but technically it shouldn't happen to the Canucks. They were in the complete opposite situation 2 years ago.

Gillis really ****ed up

That said i still think Markstron has the potential to become a decent #1 starter
