New York Rangers Hockey House: You need to go!

So Friday I found out about this thing called the New York Rangers Hockey House.

It's basically a free festival (yes, free) on 33rd and 7th right in the shadow of MSG. This place is Rangers heaven.

It's just everywhere: every inch of the wall is just plastered with players from the current team.

There's a slew of activities: table hockey, air hockey, stick-handling challenge, NHL 14, trivia with signed prizes, and of course, the classic 5-hole accuracy challenge.

You get to meet Rangers alumni: today I met and got autographs from Glenn Anderson and Gilles Villemure. Gilles told me Eddie Giacomin is gonna appear later in the week.

Brian Mullen was there as a special guest at the accuracy challenge, giving shooters live pointers. All of the shooters were right-handed so they were getting fed pucks from the right side by some random spotter dude. I walk up with a lefty stick and Mullen goes "oh you're a lefty?" and proceeds to take all the pucks to his side and feed me pucks. Basically I got centered by Brian Mullen. I scored a goal five-hole assisted by an NHL player.

There's exhibits of game used equipment from Rangers players. You can have your picture taken an shopped into a Rangers celebration. There's so much to do.

This is truly a hockey experience that blew me away. Last but not least, the Prince of Wales trophy is live in the flesh (or metal, as it were) you're allowed to walk right up to it.

Gilles Villemure

The Prince

It's there throughout the finals and did I mention it's FREE??? I wanted to share so no Rangers fans miss out on an awesome day

Oh and there's a giant board where people are writing messages for the team. If you see "McDonagh > Doughty" that was me

Security said no. But more importantly Richards decide we weren't doing it. I was gonna follow the team either way.

I remember Brian Mullen shooting on me at a goalie camp at Long Beach Arena back in 93'. Him and Derek King. Good times.

Well yeah that's how I ended up there. But for anyone who's currently not going who's in the area, I wanted to share because it's really worth the short trip on the train.

Does anyone know what hours it will be open today? I'm going to try to bring my kids by.

According to their site it's open 12-6 today.

I took my son during the Flyers series. It was a lot of fun. Sam Rosen, Pete Stemkowski and Ron Duguay were there that day.

I plan on going this weekend. Do they give any promotional items out, like towels and t-shirts?

Also is the official Rangers merchandise store near this area as well? Thanks!

They don't automatically give stuff out (except for the lanyard/placard), but you can win stuff by participating in the carnival-like events. Also, you can get free autographs and pictures taken with whatever Rangers alumni are present.

Very good, thank you Zil. I would like to get a "United in Blue" item that I see some fans wearing and hope the day I go they might have some of those available.

Is it packed there? I don't want to wait on line for over an hour just to meet Brian Mullen who seems to be at all of these things.

I went the night of game four in round one. It didn't take long to get in at all. On a non-game day it's probably even quicker. I only had to wait 10-15 minutes to meet Jeff Beukeboom during his autograph session. It's definitely worth going.

won this Stepan autographed puck yesterday doing a trivia contest

also met Glenn Anderson and Ron Greschner. really enjoy doing the puck handling thing they have there, too. been going since round 2.

you're allowed to go into the team store afterwards, as well. just have to get searched by security again.

Was planning on going yesterday after the Yankees game (which was hilarious btw), but it closed at 6 and we wanted to eat dinner first. Why would they close it so early?
