How do you know he's the only one shooting at police? You walk out there, take aim, and his buddy shoots you in the back of the head. Oops! Do I get a respawn?

Another cop sees you shooting, he can't see what you're shooting at. Maybe he shoots you thinking you're either him or an accomplice.

This is what I'm saying. You're not very bright.

How do the police even know who you are? You're more likely to get shot yourself by one party or the other than to be the hero like you fantasize about all day.

Imagine the scene during the Tsarnaev brothers' last stand if a bunch of armed knobheads with a hero complex had gotten involved. My god. If the cops wanted your help, they'd ask for it. But instead, they always recommend that the public stay in their homes and lock their doors.

Oh yes, walking outside from the concealment of my house.

It's a simple question that was asked. This ******* shoots some cops in your neighborhood, he's outside your window.

Is it legal to shoot him in Canada?

Considering that similar language has been used in the Criminal Code of Canada going all the way back to the original in 1892, that's unlikely.

I've never even thought about a question like that. Speaks volumes.

If this was a daily event, you might have a point.

What kind of coverage would this get down south? Would it make the ticker on the bottom of the screen or maybe a 15 second video clip on a slow news day?

You have this predisposed thought of what typical gun owners are like.

I don't fantasize about shoot outs.

Valid point on the cops shooting at you.

But you put this guy in a redneck town like I live in, people aren't going to sit back and cower. They are going to protect themselves.

I haven't mentioned anything about Germany. I was referring to Canada, so I assumed you were, too.

I assume your claim that things have changed suggests you can't find anything to defend your assertion that German law makes defense of others illegal.

ETA: For further note, from what I can see, the German Notwehr law (necessity of defence law) was enacted in the 1960s, so it's unlikely anything relating to it has changed in the 20 years since your friend lived there.

Apparently he's been spotted 3 times this morning?

Quote:
Codiac RCMP Supt. Marlene Snowman told a news conference that police spotted the suspect three times Thursday morning — in the area near Gorge and Mountain roads, and two other times. The police were unable to apprehend him.

How is it that you were the first person in the discussion to bring up a subject that no one else was thinking about? My guess is that typical gun owners are like Doppler Drift. You, I think, are an atypical gun owner. You spent 7 grand on a fully automatic weapon and underwent a process lasting several months to get a license for it. You're a likable guy on the boards and most likely in real life, but you also have a fetish for guns that very few people outside of America have.

It's not a fetish. But a hobby I invested a lot in. I have actually diverted the funds to drag racing. I am building up a 87 mustang. The thing with the machine gun was the wow factory, and like reaching the top of collecting. But I figured only shooting it a couple times a year, and the hassle vs enjoyment wasn't there anymore, but a street car I can play with and drive is better use of funds.

Reason I thought of it, that video of the people in the house watching it go down. If I'm that guy, I'm not going to be like a deer caught in headlights. First step would be get the wife safe, second would be arming myself.

Thanks for thinking I am a likable person, I always figured me and you could sit and drink a beer and watch a game and shoot the breeze.

Would make sense if it was a regular problem in Canada which it isn't.

I can't even think of the last time this happened in Canada yet I could reel off 10 in the last 5 years in America.

Keep peddling though.

There is a reasonable chance that MM (what with his "fetish" and all) actually has more experience and "training" with his firearms than many of the cops hunting this nut job right now.

Why did you put training in quotation marks?

Probably could have just said very few people. I don't know any Americans who are big gun nuts other than my uncle.

Is it legal ? No.

Will you get prosecuted if you do it given the circumstances ? I really doubt it.

I only found one case to compare it to. For the most part I have seen, you likely wouldn't spend any time in jail, but would lose your guns.

Who gives a ****? This isn't the wild west.

It's gone quiet since they set up that perimeter around that house.
