We just lost game 1 in ot of the scf. You would have thought we just got swept in the first round.

So disappointed. Team collapsed after the 1st goal. Embarrassed in the 3rd. Team looks slow and tired. Quick had a easy night after the 1st goal against us. Team didnt play like a team that wanted the cup.

edit:Brassards embellishment was just awful.

I'm not expressing frustration at the loss. I'm expressing frustration on the team looking lost on odd man rushes up the ice.

You're right but I thought this was the game to take out of the first two. Makes game 2 pretty much a must win

I wish Staal and Richards were afraid to shoot wide.

Quick stopping Hags on what I thought was going to be the game-winner, too bad.
Hagelin is giving the Kings a whole lot to think about. I want to see Kreider doing something better than he did tonight. He has to pay some attention to not getting into the crease and even so much as causing a breeze to hit Quick as the refs will blow the whistle right away, but there's still lots of ice for him to do what he can do.

No game is a must win unless it's an elimination game.

We played a little timid and honestly looked scared to lose more than anything. Game one SCF lost in OT to a team that everyone thinks is going to walk all over us. So what? It was our first taste and they'll be better in Game 2. The Kings really clogged up the neutral zone and negated our speed for a big stretch of the 3rd. Need to make smart passes out of the zone instead trying to force it through the Kings forwards, they gobble those up quickly and you get hemmed on your side of the red line.

A positive note to take away is that their top six didn't run rampant against us and they honestly look beatable, they struggled with our speed out of the gate.

Again, I haven't watched a replay and I never said Girardi was not at fault. But what I saw in game was Girardi go to make an outlet pass, the puck hop over his stick on crap ice, and that is the point in play where I have the problem with other players. When the puck hopped over G's stick, I recall both Zucc and McDonagh just watching and basically doing nothing up at the blue line and still heading up ice. I think McDonagh stood basically in the same spot the entire time and Zucc came back in way too late.

If you see a puck hop over a guy's stick, with someone bearing down on him, things suddenly aren't so black and white. So you just stand there at the blue line and don't pick anyone up? Once the puck hopped his stick he had no outlet. There's a King at the left point between Pouliot and there's Williams in the high slot area between Zucc and McD. That's what I have issue with. The error is on Girardi, for sure. But after the puck hopped his stick, why are Zucc and McD still heading up ice like it's a sure bet. Where was any semblance of a back check, where are outlet guys, and why were Williams and the guy at the left point not covered at all?

G blew the play. But I still think once the puck hopped his stick it's common sense to back him and pick up open players. There's no reason when a puck hops on a guy to assume the best and ignore the Kings and leave two of them wide open like that.

hypothetically, if Drew Doughty makes his toe drag crap play in OT and Pouliot goes on to score the iwnning goal there, do you think the Kings fans are ready to sit their top player for making an idiotic play?

way too much vitriol against a really really good player for us his entire career.

Yeah, it was stupid by Girardi to not put it in the corner or fall on the puck but he's not the only one who deserves blame.

Trying to keep it positive here. It's so freaking hard to get to the finals, and so much can go wrong along the way, I'd hate to waste this chance.

I'm worried that the Kings won't score fewer than 3 a game.

If that happened, Kings fans would have gotten on him for sure, but then eventually calm down.

Anyway, I suspect that by tomorrow, everyone will calm down about Girardi.

yeah, i hope so.

i really feel for Dan. Ive been there. More than once.

If youve ever played hockey, and more specifically defense, youve probably been exactly where hes been.

you cost your team a win, a championship, a whatever because of a stupid, stupid play.

but, its the exception, not the rule. theresa reason hes a former allstar. theres a reason hes a #1 pair defenseman for the Eastern Conference Champs.

lotsa blame to go around for this loss, but i still prefer to think that there were a lot of positives to take from this game, not the least of which was us generating tons of quality chances in the first 2 periods.

i'll say it again. i'll take the game on MSLs sticks any day of the week. MSL had like 5 chances to win us this game, and didnt. he'll come through.

gotta get a split OR hold serve in games 3 and 4. Rangers have 1 more shot at the split. It gets tougher if we lose game 2, thats for sure.

and for all the talk about the kings..lets not forget, theyve lost 3 games in a row TWICE in these playoffs. TWICE.

no lead is safe with them...or FOR them.

So, what's to take away from this game, the obvious "bad turnovers defensively = death against an opponent as good as LA" aside?

1) Fatigue is not going to play a role in our favor this series. It's not happening, guys. The Kings do not look fatigued - neither physically, nor mentally. This strange chubby faced guy wearing number 8 especially. Seemed like he could go all night.

2) We need to learn to utilize our speed in different ways. I think this was showing as well. The Rangers were the better team for the first 15 minutes. Why? Because they spread out LA with their speed. Sutter then made an adjustment, the neutral zone got a little more crowded. We'll have to find a plan B. The obvious would be get to the dump ins first. That didn't happen tonight. AV needs to come up with something here, speed is the one weapon we were able to rely on all season.

3) Shoot the ****ing puck when you have the opportunity, will ya?! This goes for Stepan and Nash, especially. Zuccarello actually tried this some more than I'm used to by him. If I'm AV, this is probably the first message I'm trying to get into their heads.

4) Don't panic when you get a turnover in their end. We got some turnovers in their end, but all that resulted were hurried turnaround shots or attempts that got blocked. If you have no other possibility at all, dump it into the corner. No shooting blindly into LA's shipads/Quick's logo. Try to establish time in the zone instead of taking alibi shots.

5) That play behind their net needs to continue. This was the second aspect of our offense where LA appeared to struggle. They weren't prepared for this kind of thing really, especially "smaller" guys like Zucc, Brassard and Moore seemed to surprise their defenders at times. Continue to work behind Quick. There will be results.

6) Establish a forecheck. This can be a serious weapon. In periods 2 and 3 LA's defenders had way too much time just getting it out to center. Only one guy forechecked for each line. We need two guys doing that. Greene and Mitchell are awesome in many ways, but there are two things they are not: World class skaters and world class passers. Get a hound like Hagelin, Kreider, Pou or Dorsett to go after the puck. Stepan, Brassard and Moore are all excellent when it comes to reading the play. We can utilize this.

7) Pressure their blueline when they're setting up in our end. Again, those guys aren't the fastest skaters. None of them. Pressure them a little more. Put some doubt in their heads. If they turn the pcuk over our guys can just turn on the jets.

8) The ****ing PP is an atrocity and needs to improve. How? I'd try to take Richards off it. Then? No idea, as it just looks like a trainwreck.

that's all I have for now.

The problem I have with most of the people on this board is they're using Girardi as a scapegoat for the loss. I could understand if the Rangers played balls to the wall for 60 minutes and had the Kings on the ropes. The fact is that D had to play their ***** off because of our inept offense.

Little to no puck movement. No cohesion. Just flat out stupid play making. This team plays infinitely better when they keep things simple, jam the crease, take shots, and fight for rebounds.

AND ENOUGH OF THOSE CENTERING PASSES IN THE OFFENSIVE ZONE THAT NEVER END UP ON ONE OF THE RANGERS' STICKS!
