Dupuis has only 2 years in the league, in a few years he'll certainly make more money but the Wild at the moment, are still a young team with a lot of investments they need to pay off and to continue to sign and keep some players.
I figure a 1-2 year contract at 800,000-1 million dollars loaded with incentives would be best. Then they go back to the table, figure out a new contract based around guys his age, what they making, this time fully sure that Dupuis is going to 1) hold up 2) be consistant 3) isn't going to be knocked out for a season with an injury.
See, that would be the logical approach to it. Unfortunately, the market dictates Dupuis getting what he asks for instead of some incentives. If Dupuis(or his agent, whatever) rejected an offer of 1 million plus incentives, he ought to be beat with a dumbass bat. Perform well and get your money.
Logic dictates that, players will get get the highest amount of money possible ALONG WITH incentives. It's ridiculous. I'm sorry but fighting over a measly 200,000 dollars, that should be one of the last things you should be concerned about as a player. You get a million this year. Go back to the table, say I performed this well, this guy got this contract for performing this well and for this many years, I want this amount of money. Team counter proposes. Player counter proposes. They meet in the middle and should get more money in the long run.
Dupuis when he's 28 and performs as well as he is, I wouldn't mind forking over more than 2.5 million for him. He's a good team player but he needs to prove that he can stay consistant, that is the bottom line!
48 points for 350 k ... what a joke
Zednik had like 2.5 millions last year with his bonus and he had 50 points..
I think 1.5 millions is fair for a guy like him.
zednik is also one of the most overrated players in the nhl. his salary is too high for a guy who is a 40-50pt player.
dupuis should take the mil + incentives. welcome to the national hockey leagues salary structure, walsh.
But the other thing is Zednik is more established in the league too than Dupuis. Dupuis had a good rookie season, had a great second season and needs to have a couple more great seasons to be awarded a huge contract.

1.85 M for 31 goals ? I think that's pretty good bang for your bucks !
And I think last year was a little less than that.
(sure incentives aren't added yet .. but it can't be more than 1M over 2 years in incentives)

19 assists is also a telling statistic. i'm just not impressed. 1.85mil (~2Mil after his bonuses) is not terrible, but wait until he needs to be re-signed this off season. i dont think he's worth a whole lot more than that. i may have contempt for him because i think he is grossly overrated. for a forward that has averaged ~48pts in the past 3 seasons (44, 44 & 50) and provides little of anything other than goals, he gets too much talk.
back on topic, fleury, dupuis, havlat, gaborik (and comrie, etc) have one thing in common: they have no leverage.
the bright side is, they dont get signed, walsh dont get paid
Why dont they offer 1M$/1 yr with bonus money that can make it up to 1.5M$? Also, How much money is Gaborik looking for?
The wild,Riseborough and co must think the players and the fans are stupid. Didnt they make 20+ million in profit last season? If so why cant they make a fair offer to Gaborik?I really do not understand what they are doing.

it's called being fiscally responsible and not blowing your wad just because you have money.
