When you're putting up 60 points a season, no one is looking at hits - they're looking at the havoc you create in front of the net, which JVR does in spades now more than ever.

If people are worried about your hit totals, you belong bottom 6.

Phanuef would be a beautiful piece on a team like LA, St. Louis, Chicago or Boston. He'd be a stellar #3-4 dman. IMO, if he gets himself onto a contending team, we will see the return of his "prime". Only if the team has the sufficient cap space I guess.

Also with the Florida thing, I think Tallon is too smart to put that much cap space into Campbell and Phanuef. And I don't see Phanuef accepting a trade to Florida.

All in all, Phanuef is still quality, it's a matter of a team who is willing to overpay by a bit.
LA doesn't need him.

For phaneuf at 20% retained. Is that fair value leafs fans?

I think at this point you can add phaneuf to the probably on the move list, at least he should be. I said they should have moved him at the deadline for a top 4 D and good prospect while his value was high but now it's about getting salary space

Anaheim's first + DSP + Sbisa for Phaneuf at 10% retention, anymore retention and I think it would have to move up to Ottawa's first.

He's definitely got power forward elements to his game though. I guess it depends how you define a power forward.

JVR can cycle the puck along the boards, he's more than willing to go to the front of the net and wreak havoc, and he's very good at driving towards the net off the wing. He's not your prototypical mean SOB who fights, hits, and scores though.

This is likely Twitter tripe, care of Kypreos, but let's suppose he's correct....

What does it say about the business and hockey acumen of a GM/team that signs a player to a seven-year extension on January 31st....and then is "actively shopping" him on June 5th?

Rhetorical question.

Lawl. as a flyers fan you should know he is a power forward. He creates space, is elite in front of the net, strong on the boards, and uses his body to protect and keep possession. Only thing he doesn't do is fight.

Umm...No. I would rather have JVR than Neal, and Letang isn't worth a top 10 pick and we don't have a 2015 second.

Leafs are in a tough spot. They decided to keep the coach, which means you have to have some roster changes probably involving players that struggled to play the way the team wants to play. Status quo isn't an option.

I think plenty of teams are looking to upgrade through trades and it will, as free agency will, be a game of musical chairs and after a while it will be prohibitively expensive to trade for good players.

It says that they re-evaluated and now believe they want to take the team in a different direction. Remember at the time these contracts were signed the leafs were a playoff team. Phaneuf signed when he was playing awesome hockey and the leafs were top 5 in the east.

I know it doesn't say that JVR is not in the 4 that are untouchable but he is untouchable. Watching this guy is fun to watch at 6 foot 3 he can skate, pass, shoot, and can play on our pk a little bit, and he is only 24 years old. There are opposing defenseman who say that JVR is as fast as kessel. Let it go with the JVR offers when we got JVR we acquired a need bc Luke Schenn was a piece we could part with.

Even though I'm sure Leafs fans will S*** on any offer made for JVR, I figured I'd make one for the CBJ.

Anisimov, + prospect not named Wennberg ( Rychel, Dano, Bjorkstrand) + one of our young D-men (Prout/Savard/Erixon) + 16th overall for JVR+ random prospect TML doesn't want.

There is nothing realistic the Pens would offer to interest the Leafs.

Kessel's there for the long haul...and I'm sure he's professional enough to get along without a player as mediocre as Bozak.

...anyway, didn't Kessel himself say he was better friends with MacArthur than Bozak?

We don't need depth though. We have all kinds in our prospects. If we are giving up a young high end talent in JVR, I would suspect it would be a 1 for 1 for another young high upside player like Ryan Murray. OR a 2 for 1 with a first and a 2nd pairing D or top 6 forward with 2 way game.

Not interested in retaining any of Phaneuf's contract, but we can eat Souray's. Not interested in Sbisa either. Need a quality player in return, think Smith-Pelly.

Nonis has said he would be trading youth for youth but I don't think this is what he imagined. Think Boone Jenner

Could NJ suffice the young talent for young talent trade, for JVR?

Lou works magic. Package involving Larsson?

Could be the best move Burke ever made. Based on his recent performance, age, contract, I doubt Nonis trades him for anything short of a ridiculous overpayment.
