2007 alone makes Timmins a top 5 hockey scout.

Pretty much the best at finding NHL talent. Can't bother to find it, but I remember him having the most game played by draftees.

8 or 9 for me. Anyone saying under 6-7 is out of his mind. Timmins drafts more NHLers than basically anyone else in the business.

One of the best. Also props to the org for bringing in Frank Jay, really solid amateur scouting team.

Gave him 8. He's been improving with some drafts and pretty much the same old average guy with others. I don't think we could get a better director of scouting right now, so I'm quite satisfied with his work overall.

Gave him 9. Could also have been a 8. One of the best in the business. A master at finding NHL players out of late picks - he almost does it every year. I also think he is better now than he was 10 years ago, but this is subjective.

I gave him a 9. Based mostly on his late round finds. Hated the Kostitsyn pick at the time, still more now.

Funny how it goes....Timmins struck out next year after his legendary '07 draft. Boudrias did same thing after his famous '84 and '87 drafts. Both would find stud d-men out of 2nd round, Desjardins to Subban. Similar players in Darcy Tucker or Gallagher in fifth round of drafts, both got steals in Halak or Vokoun who were 9th round picks. Both had a star player traded away before they matured in McDonagh and John LeClair. Both made same mistakes selecting local in Leblanc and Charbonneau. Both first ever pick here were highly rated Euros who underachieved. In Kostitsyn and Svoboda.

The 2006, 2008 and 2009 (will Leblanc be a bust?) are awful drafts...but I gave him a 8 on 10 because he's done a really great job in 2007 and 2010.

2004 & 2005 were pretty great too. 2004 we added Streit as a 9th round-pick, Grabovski in the 5th and Emelin in the 3rd round.
2005 there was Carey Price, D'Agostini (even though he didn't stay much time in Montreal) and S.Kostitsyn.

But 2006 put him out of that top 5.

How so? Only two or three teams ended up with a good draft that year. Outside of the first 2 rounds it has to be one of the lowest % of players in the NHL drafts of all time. Even the second round was pretty ******.

I gave him an 8 but I was tempted to give him an 9. Our star players have all came from his drafting.

I voted 1, thinking that was the top of the heap NHL wide, so 10+ on a scale receding to one. Timmins IMHO has no peer as Chief Scout a fact not lost on Habs management team, with two of the acknowledged top 1% in hockey worldwide in Bergevin & Dudley, giving the Habs 3 of the best talent evaluators in the entire league. Also the top reason for the Habs recent upsurge into a top ten team in the NHL from last place two years ago!

Having the best hockey minds drafting and making decisions is a distinct advantage, that the Habs haven't had in at least two decades if not longer.

The Habs biggest competition in this regard are Chicago, LA Kings, St.Louis, Anaheim and soon the Columbus franchise with former St.Louis President, John Davidson & GM Jarmo Kekalainen (top 1% talent evaluator).

Others that belong on that list are Dale Tallon, Scotty Bowman, Dean Lombardi, Doug Wilson & Kenny Holland amongst the top ten, all listed above, IMHO.

Not even Kekalainen? Columbus will have a lot better prospect pool now that Jarmo is their GM.

Middle of the pack. Too many years of busts/minor league only players counteracts the one really good Subban year. Last season might be his 2nd really good draft.

3 first rounders in 2013 yet Timmins may have fine better in the same draft.

Jarmo is great though.

Gave him an 8, some busts here and there but one of the best in the business for late round gems and he's found two top pairing defenseman, an star winger and an elite goalie in a decade... Not bad eh.

Less than a decade, really, since we're still seeing the developing on the last few years. Pretty much top tier, as you said.

Very good (8) but development and resource management have been mediocre at best so he has nothing to show for it. Hopefully we see more improvements in the near future. We can't ask for better than him.

Plus I'm pretty sure 03 wasn't really 'his' draft.
