Subban and 20 goals

So four years into his career, PK has a 14 goals season and 11 in 42 during last years lockout.

Is he a lock for 20 goals at some point? Never? I figure he will reach it at least once during his career, maybe even a couple of times.

maybe it's just me but Therrien's system makes it seem like our whole defence doesn't seem to get involved as much 5v5 and I feel like our whole defensive core isn't scoring as much as other defences in the league.
Although it could also be because Emelin, Gorges, Weaver, Bouillon & Murray just don't have that good offensive instincts.

Entirely possible. Depends more on the PP setup being more dynamic. I actually think that if we are a threat down low with the forwards, it opens up space for more Subban rockets. Last season his aim was excellent and an upgrade over the previous season, but man even now, when that puck slides over to his stick...all Habs fans get a lil chub. (Think that goal in a losing effort after he got sprayed by Thornton.)

I was pretty impressed with that breakaway as well. Usually he flops by time he dekes a whole team, but that was sick against Rask no less.

He can get 20 goals. No doubt.

Don't think that should be the focus though. Doubt it is either. And yeah...Therrien has a bigggg part to play in that question.

All I care is that Subban continues to be a big game player and a leader. The poise of that kid. Amazing.

Yeah, but it'll happen when the PP strategy changes to something other than "get the puck to Subban".

We need someone like Kovalev/Cammalleri on the half-boards on the PP, having a threat like that who can snipe and not just pass will take less pressure off Subban as teams won't be cheating towards Subban expecting him to get the puck all the time. Hopefully Galchenyuk can turn into that player for us soon enough.

Totally agree. Him scoring 20 would be nice but not at the cost of other aspects of his game.

He should get 20 several times in his career. His career best: 31.

Could totally get 20 goals, he's a PP goal threat every time he's on the ice. If we just get someone to run the PP properly...

He should be able to make that. They will need a real top line to make it possible though. This years strategy was too obvious "pass to PK" If the other team had a real top line to deal with down low that would leave more room for PK.

With a good power-play, he could easily get 20. 30 is a possibility as well at some point.

But, Subban dealt with horrible shooting lanes all season long. Other teams have adapted to the fact the whole Habs' power-play goes through Subban and we have very few firepower up front. Thus, they could simply constantly have one guy pressuring Subban and blocking his shooting lanes.

Also, as much as I like Gallagher, a 5'8" shouldn't be the type of guy that's assigned at screening goalies that are nowadays all 6'1" and up.

Depends on the powerplay getting revamped to create space for his onetimer. Right now penalty killers over cover him since the forwards are useless down-low on the powerplay and he's the only threat.

I don't care about 20 goals... I'd rather see him with 60 pts.

With Subban's skill and talent he would get 30 goals a year if he had a good coach the way Keenan pushed Chelios and let him play but Therrien has no creative offensive approach.

So true. But shouldn't Pacioretty or Pleks be able to do that?

Well with 53 this season I think that is also a realistic goal.

20 goal scorers among dman

2013-14: Weber (23) Karlsson (20)
2012-13: 48 game season
2011-12: none
2010-11: Byfuglien (20)
2009-10: none
2008-09: Green (31), Souray (23), Weber (23)

In the last 4 full seasons, only 3 dman have hit the 20 goal mark.

Based on that alone, I'd think the chances of Subban of doing so aren't very good.

I think it is certainly possible but many different factors play a role in it happening.

Subban is one of the league's best offensive defenseman, and has one of the best point shot... If Weber can do it, Subban can do it, and more, as well. That's all you need to know.

So yeah, I'd say he's likely.

Hard to believe the great Larry Robinson never got 20 goals in a season-but he brought so much more so it does not matter

Yea he'll do it at some point. His SH% went down a bit this year but hopefully it recovers and he can score more next year.

If the PP set up actually has him on the Left and with better passers then he's a lock for 20 goals.

As someone previously stated, he is the ONLY threat, and the opposition knows this. They would rather play 4v3 and just have one person cover Subban since most habs PP goals come from a Subban one-timer, or a deflected Subban one-timer, or a rebound from a Subban one-timer.
