Possibly.... but if NY buys out Richards, you would have to think they would pursue that first.

Habs should get him for the profit from jersey sales alone.

There are a lot of centers available, which is unusual. Could be an interesting time leading up to and including the draft. Wouldn't surprise me of if he is moved, but I don't see it happening until the guys like Spezza/Kesler/Thornton move.

Pleks has value.

I was thinking more of Lecavalier, salary retained (+) for Briere(+)

Briere loves Philadelphia. Let him finish his career there. I believe the ban is only 1 year ?

Philly won't be retaining salary and Briere isn't needed.

For the opposition coaches

Each player would make Ovechkin +/- look respectable by end of season

If there is a team willing to take in an aging, oft-injured, declining former star player it is likely a non playoff small market team with plenty of cap space. It is unlikely Vinny would waive his NMC in those circumstances. I think Philly has to eat salary to find a team that Vinny would waive for.

And for the record there is zero place for Vinny on the Habs. He is not a fit and we have 4 centermen (galchenyuk, Desharnais, Eller and Pleks) ahead of him in the depth chart.

I'm glad it's been acknowledged I guess, but this isn 't news to Flyers fans. If Vinny and the Flyers are serious with each other and themselves, they would both acknowledge they made a mistake and need to divorce. Only in part due to each other -- Peter Laviolette pushed for Vinny, and then got fired after 3 games. Flyers didn't not have either the foresight to know, or were more than nave to make such a decision with a coach hanging on by the skin of his teeth. Vinny came to a team that already had 3 centers and Laughton on the horizon.

I would sign up for taking Lecavalier at no real cost for the Habs. I wouldn't give up anything of actual value for him, but I'd take on his contract just to see where things might go. Not with any optimism, mind you. More out of a sense of answering the call of cosmic destiny.

Taking on Vinny is pointless and detrimental to our cap planning. Pretend his last name was Smith... Would you still take him?

No, of course not. I only want him _because_ he's the mystical Vincent Lecavalier, long-sought-after second coming of Jean Beliveau and destined to restore the Habs to their former glory as the #1C the team has lacked for ages. It would be a cool story if he came to the Habs, finally, after all these years, and then actually did play well. I wouldn't expect it. I'd expect we'd end up in another Gomez-like situation. But it would be entertaining enough along the way that I'd sign up for it.

We should bring back Koivu at the league minimun if you are after sentimental value. At least that wouldn't hurt us from a cap flexibility standpoint. Vinny looks old and slow. Injuries have taken its toll. Its painful to watch him play - he is a shell of his former self. And then you are stuck with him for 4 more years. Thats a bad contract.

I still think he can be effective player but he will need line mates that can are fast and that can possess the puck like Hossa and Kane.

We definitely don't need him though I'd just like to see him back in Tampa where he's beloved.
Id actually do that all day long if for nothing but the 2nd round pick. If Vinny gets hurt it's no biggie but he could still put up some points if healthy.

If the Habs got Vinny would he get to hold the torch first at their opening game ceremony?

Probably, but then he would go down in flames Gomez style. And we have no CBO to bail us out.

True, but that list dropped to about 5 when he said he wanted 5 years and a full NMC.
That changed the interest level
He's a good center, but there won't be a long list of GM's calling Homer, too many fish in the sea this year.
And the Flyers might have to eat some of that contract. Laavy wanted him in Philly and still does, could be the Preds are a possible destination.
Vinnie wanted to play for Lavvy so he shouldn't have a problem if they ask him about that.

As someone who watched him every game last year, let me say, he is horrible. Any GM who takes him is an idiot. Hopefully I never have to see him play another game in a Flyers uniform.

Nashville would be a good place for him to go. They'll play him at center in a top 6 role, and trade one of Cullen/Stalberg for him. Win win for both teams as Nashville has too many redundant pieces and needs a veteran center with offensive ability.

He can play a sheltered role in Nashville, and if Philly picks ~500k, they get out of a hairy cap situation long term.

Are you actually pretending that Lecavalier scored those 20-goals on the Flyers fourth line? Do you think anyone will believe that?
