Dat shell.

Also this is probably not a very original thought but I wish you could pull the goalie in futbol sudamericano.

OK I'll stop with the adjective. But I may on occasion reference futbol.

why should they play at different times? Brazil has winter and the starting times are perfect for the european market... the market that offers up the most money for the Fifa.

Most games start 6pm or 9pm in europe. That's perfect.

Yeah, these start times are amazing. The only way they could be better is if the tournament was being held in the US.

Nice.

This makes me hope Qatar's bid gets officially squashed and the US somehow swoops in and grabs the bid.

Loved seeing the Dutch crush the Spaniards. Always had a soft spot for the Dutch team as in the 94 Cup I unexpectedly got to go see a Cup game in Wash DC and it was Holland vs. Saudi Arabia. My friends and I were in the upper deck of old RFK Stadium and were literally surrounded by the whole Dutch contingent, probably about 25,000 strong.

Wonderful people, passionate, friendly...some gorgeous ladies...beer everywhere...they even brought a band. By the end of the game (a very good 2-1 Dutch win) I was as drunk as I've ever been, had been "adopted" by two Dutch families lol, had the address of some girl in the Hague and apparently had traded my US soccer shirt for an orange shirt and hat, which I wore home. Good times.

Now I'm enjoying watching my Colombian mother in law in full World Cup mode, which is funny cause she's so laid back and quiet normally. We started on the margaritas at 10 this morning!

if it's not Qatar - and please don't let it be Qatar - it should be in europe. Biggest soccer market and most european countries wouldn't need much time to prepare or build stadiums

Neither would the US. The most profitable tournament ever was '94. We have the biggest collection of 70000+ stadiums in the world.

The Beautiful Game again is exposed as a fraud..Diving/Acting rules the results too often as ref get puckered or intimidated into calling such phantom infractions as foul deserving of penalty shots or yellow cards...it is total garbage to see games ruined by so many fakers and fingers of injury who roll on the ground on dying mode for lengthy times then miraculously pop up again to play as if nothing happened...also the whiners who protest to ref on every call not going their way or imagined foul the ref missed and who crowd around the ref right at their face or scream and yell at them from a distance..such a plethora of bad behaviour plus fakers together make the "Beautiful Game" really the "Ugly Game"...There should be coaches challenges for all penalty shot calls and if diving is determined the diver should be sent off to a penalty box for 5minutes and if caught diving again in the game sent off for such a 2nd acting job...If diving to induce the ref to call a penalty shot the shot chance should be cancelled...If a yellow card or red card is awarded for an apparent foul outside the penalty area the and then the ref over-ruled by a video czar assigned to review immediately all such incidents...then not only should there be no card given to the at first thought to be aggressor but instead a warning given to the diver and if he dives again in through game a red card issued to him on his second dive. The gotta get rid of all fakers.

Europe shouldn't and won't host two World Cups in a row. If it is moved it will be in the US or Australia.

to date, 2010 was the most profitable world cup.

pretty sure 98 and 2006 generated more money due to TV rights too

but if it would be in Murica, it would generate the most money too

1994 has the highest attendance, not sure about profitability. It was also the last WC to have 24 teams.

yes, it has had the highest attendance, but 2010 generated the most money to date. 25% more than 2006

Uruguay has a great offense and they nearly scored the 1st goal. Was offsides

Uruguay had the lead going into halftime after a penalty scored by Cavani. Now in the 2nd half underdog Costa Rica scored twice to take the lead.

2nd half is great to watch. Go Costa rica

Would they host a U.S. World Cup at NFL stadiums to sell more tickets or hold them at MLS soccer-specific venues to try to increase interest in MLS?

Some soccer guy was on the Score not that long ago and talked about how they messed up in '94 by not making the construction of soccer-specific stadiums a condition of the U.S. getting that World Cup because it took so long for MLS teams to get their own special places to play and it was thought that lack of MLS-specific stadiums hurt the ability of MLS to fully capitalize on soccer's increased popularity after the '94 World Cup.

MLS stadiums, for the most part, are not large enough to host WC games.
