So you're telling me Pittsburgh's problem in net doesn't entice some thought into this? I assure you I wouldn't trade Lundqvist for Malkin if I was NY, so whoever said the other way around, I guess Fleury gets the job done (not)
So a buyout candidate that got demoted to the 4th line and the best goalie in the NHL for an average starting goalie and arguably the best player in the NHL? Not a chance. Fleury is more valuable than Richards and Malkin is more valuable than Lundqvist. Just awful.
In all honesty, I wouldn't do this value-wise from the Pens point of view as it seems NY should add.
But a Pens team with Lundquist in net would immediately become way more a serious contender than now. The loss of Malkin would be huge, ok. But I think the Pens, by packaging picks n prospects, could make a deal to get a very good player that could mitigate Malkin's loss. At that point, Pens would become favorites in the East, imo. So I hope it won't ever happen!!!! :p
NYR without Lunquist would be back a couple of steps from where they are as I believe you must build a winning team starting with a great goalie (Fleury for me is ok. Though I am not sure he still has it in him to be able to win it all again). So even NY, while tempted, wouldn't probably do it.
Oh well that makes even more sense then..... We trade Malkin and Fluery for Lundquist and buyout Richards...... The pens should add then if they have the opportunity to take Richards off the rangers hands..... Nutty line of reasoning!!
Richards has negative value due to his contract and age..... No way we make the Rangers a younger stronger team!!!
Go get Stamkos and Bishop or Toews and Crawford or another primer player with it's teams starting goalie and see how many fan bases say yeah I'll take your ageing goalie (all be it the top one in the league for now) and buyout player........ Not happening!!??
Tampa says no
Chicago says no
Pittsburgh says no...... We can sign Miller or Brodure and still keep Malkin in his prime!!
